May be its too much common sense, but BBL is played during Indian home season.IPL is played in Aussie off season.

Key is IPL needs to expand. That will dilute the power of ICC. It is a ten year process so every step has to be carefully taken. End of the day we do need Aussies.

Looks like someone has leaked BCCI blueprints for IPL's expansion and the only way to stop it is to prevent foreign players playing in them.

CA management is downright Machiavellian in its strategies against its own players.   Their previous player salaries setup was the best in the world - dedicated percentage amount of revenue allocated for player salaries - as fair as it can be for players.   Only problem?  With projected TV revenues going up in the future, the suits don't want to share the wealth with the players that actually generate them.  So they are now trying to peddle 'financial certainty' to the players by capping their salaries at fixed amounts.   They are also trying the good old 'divide and conquer' approach by creating a caste system separating out the international players from the domestic.   Now, this is another attempt at trying to use their players as leverage and limit the players' earnings potential in the process.   This is not going to go down well with the Aussie players - There's going to be a lot of churn and trouble in the Aussie player-board relationship in the coming months.  

 

If the BCCI had its $hit together, they could have really stirred the pot by offering certain star players multi year 'base' contracts - assuring them of minimum amounts, as long as they commit to IPL season availability - For example - A David Warner could be guaranteed his base price for 3 years - and would still be free to make more if teams bid higher for him.   This way, the IPL could offer financial certainty to players and only requiring the player to commit 2-3 months every year.   I bet you a LOT of players across all teams would be very interested in signing up.  

 

Damn, the more I think about this - this really needs to happen.  The IPL needs to offer 3 year contracts with guaranteed base salaries - basically the base auction price for the player - in return for the player signing up for a 3 to 4 month window - Feb 15th to June 1st.    This would be a brilliant way to exert its financial muscle against all boards that have tried to gang up on BCCI.

Every player has the right to be a freelancer but sign a contract with a board then they dictate when.

Until the employee gets alternative options, and then the 'blackmail' backfires.   Look at the current situation with the West Indies board and their players to see a relevant example.  

 

In reality, cricket players are not employees of the boards.  They are more like business partners, and the ones that actually do most of the work, and bring the relevant skill-set and assets in play.  If you don't deal with your partners with respect and mutual benefit, they may stick around until they get other alternatives, but then will leave in a flash, as soon as they have options.

I don't see any way that CA can get the players to give in and agree to their terms.  Most likely scenario is that the previous agreement gets extended for another year, OR if CA holds firm, then its down to series by series negotiations.    The latter scenario only happens if CA expects a windfall revenue agreement within the next year.  Anyone know the TV rights situation with BBL and when its going to be re-negotiated?

TBH, That is absolutely correct reason. BCCI can not afford any board to have a league where Indian stars are part of. However any player from any other country, if performs in IPL, becomes star. Look at Rashid
