Jadeja/Ashwin In ODI after World Cup 2015 - Poor

I am sure they aren't the best bowlers in entire India when it comes to ODI matches. Last time they took 3 wickets by giving less than 40 runs (Match Winning Performance), was back in 2014.  I am not including Ashwin taking wickets against UAE in the world cup. Most of times they are giving 50 runs away by taking one wicket. On good days, they end up taking 2 wickets.

Ashwin is a lot closer to Maxwell, and Jadeja is closer to Malik. Its time to introduce quality spinners such as Kuldeep into the team. I don't know why selectors don't keep track of performances across formats, these guys are in the team due to test match performaces, same goes with Rahane etc.

Quality leg/wrist spinners are priceless in limited overs cricket, I though chahal would have been selected, kuldeep was an absolute must but when you got selectors like msk prasad then it is foolish to expect anything of intelligence

Good post.  Its all about taking wickets in the middle overs.   If Ash/Jaddu can't take wickets away from home in ODIs, then its time to look to others.

That's because wickets for ODIs nowadays in India are complete patta wickets and dont have a little help for spinners as they used to. And yes, I think Kuldeep or Chahal should be given an opportunity as Jaddu and Ash havent been good on hard surfaces.

LOL what about the wickets in India where 360/4 is par? Both have very good economy rates considering the pitches we have. Remember they don't play in Zimbabwe/WI to boost their stats like Mishrajee.

Agreed that our spinners haven't really done much of late. If we are getting such low returns from them then I would rather play someone like Krunal Pandya who will probably have similar bowling figures but would add much needed batting depth and hitting power.

AR patel economy rate is also under 4.50, now don't tell me he is playing against WI on dust bowls. Pitches everywhere are same in ODI, in England there is not much difference between scores.

Exactly, thats what i am implying. If you are being selected as a bowler, you need 3 wickets performances here and there to help your team in middle overs. Someone like Krunal Pandya will be able to take 1 or 2 wickets every match giving less than 6 runs an over.

Go through his match list again.

Also NZ ODI series was played on turners and Ash and Jaddu sat out as usual. These 2 only play against the big boys and ICC tournaments, esp Ash has an ATG record in major tournaments.

Australia is coming to India this October for a 7 match ODI series. I can assure you that if Mishra/Axar play that series their ER will be above 8 and average above 80 !!!!

Man you want to see Jadeja benched............. for Krunal?   I can see the argument for Chahal or Kuldeep.  Not for Krunal/Axar.  They are both Jadeja clones.  Restricting spinners who can bat a bit.

No, two different things. If you want to play main spinner, play someone like Kuldeep who can take wickets. If you are happy with just taking one wicket and conceding 6 runs an over, even a batsman like Krunal can get you that.

Krunal will be much worse than Jadeja on these wickets. You need a wrist spinner or some other unorthodox spinner to pick some wickets on these surfaces. Jaddu may have an off game 2/5 times on these wickets, whereas Krunal is bound to go for runs 4/5 times. Because they are picked as a bowler who are supposed to bowl their full quota, you cant pick them just because they can bat a bit. We are seeing a similar situation with Hardik. They should be able to do one good thing, whether as a batsman or a bowler.

Again, when i mention Krunal, he will play as a batsman not as 5th bowler. Meaning you can select someone like Shami who is warming bench right now. Spinner job is now to take wickets which Jadeja can't pick in middle over given his average is closing to 60.

Hmm. Fair point.

Although this team with 8 batsmen might still putter around to about 320.

"Enough on the board".

Kohli want certain players in the team irrespective of performance, conditions etc , unluckily Jadeja & Ashwin are the players in that list.

If reports are to be believed, the selection of Kuldeep was the main reason for the spat between Kumble & Kohli.

Krunal is not good enough to be picked as a batsman though.

Last 2 years in IPL, he has played 25 matches, scored at average of 37 and SR of 158. He is not the world beater, but he is better than Rahane,Yuvi on current form, and Biryani type who played for India recently. He is kind of batsman who take responsibility just as shown in IPL final.
