Where do you rank Ravichandran Ashwin in comparison to other Indian spinners so far?

I hope Ashwin stops seeing himself as a specialist bowler from now onwards. He should definitely eye the no 6 spot, now that the burden of ODI/T20s is no longer his to bear. I want him to be compared to Vinoo Mankad 4 years from now and not Bedi, Kumble etc. He has the ability to score in overseas pitches, a rarity among Indian spinners. Sometimes he looks even more assured than Rahane/Kohli/Che/MV.

Ashwin is still waiting for a decent series in Australia England or South Africa. Declining test cricket standard, 6+ years of International career and 31 year old, he hasnt got more than couple of years to proove everyone wrong.

Next year is big for him with 3 big tours coming. If He does well, He will be one of the greatest matchwinners in test cricket history. Otherwise, he will be just another hometrack bully like clouderson.

Or Sehwag. Being home track bully is not a bad thing at all.

Dunno why Harbhajan is on the list, he was a blatant chucker as long as he was doing well. Non chucking Bhajji was as mediocre as it gets. In my 20 odd years of watching test cricket, only Swann, Ashwin and Lyon are offies who are also match winners. Murali, Bhajji, Saqlain, Ajmal all had dodgy actions while other proper non chucking offies were/are mediocre to say the least.

I am not saying all of them chucked all the time. But guys like Bhajji and Saqlain occasionally chucked, it isn't possible to bowl doosra without chucking. Doosra is a big weapon, gives the bowler a huge psychological edge over batsmen, I doubt any of them would have enjoyed similar success without doosra.

I don't rate modern day ODI batsmen that highly anyways. Kohli, Warner, ABDV, Amla etc may be the best in this format now but IMO they are inferior to the guns of 70s/80s/90s like King Viv, Zaheer Abbas, Dean Jones, Crowe, Sachin, Lara etc...........modern day ODI rules are bizarre, bowlers are treated like garbage. 

 

In tests it is a different matter. Except Australia and to a lesser extent England, I don't think pitches have gone flatter compared to previous 3 decades, in some countries pitches have gotten more result oriented. Thick bats in tests are a problem (unlike in T20s/ODIs) because edges carry to slips and normal defensive stroke against spinners have a greater chance of getting gobbled up by silly point, FSL etc. Notice the great batsmen against spin in the earlier decades like Lara, Azhar, SunnyG, Miandad, Ian Chappell...all batted with featherweight bats. I honestly think that one of the reasons why modern day batters are so weak against spin is heavy bats.

Ganguly once said in an interview- kumble kept telling him give me 600 runs and ill win u games

When ashwin toured overseas he mostly got low scores, which in most cases wont get u attacking fields
