Media Advisory

The Indian Premier League Governing Council along with the Committee of Administrators (CoA) met in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss IPL Player retention policy, salary cap, player regulations and other related issues.

The IPL GC decided the following –

(A). Player Retention Policy

An IPL Franchise is eligible to secure up to 5 players by virtue of a combination of Player Retention (Pre Player Auction) and Right to Match (RTM) (During the Player Auction).

• A maximum of either 3 retention or 3 RTM at the discretion of the franchises
• If there is no retention before player auction then franchises can have up to 3 RTM

Following will apply irrespective of player retention or RTM –

Maximum number of 3 Capped Indian players.
Maximum number of 2 Overseas players.
Maximum number of 2 Uncapped Indian players.

The player pool available for CSK and RR for retention/RTM will be the players’ who played for them respectively in IPL 2015 and who were part of RPS and GL squads in IPL 2017.

(B). Salary Cap

2018 – INR 80 Crore
2019 – INR 82 Crore
2020 – INR 85 Crore

The minimum spend will be 75 per cent of the salary cap for each season.

CSK's first run was epic. By far they were the best T20 team in the planet. Will be interesting to see if they can retain their mojo in 2nd stint.

It was a shame that they were chucked out by Politics. Despite being DD supporter, I didnt like a IPL without CSk

There was something amazing in old CSK that any player that played for them used to turn into legends.

 

Bravo was a mediocre player in MI...moment he got transferred to CSK he went onto the most MVP player.

Mike Hussey was a star in CSK...he went to MI and turned into a dud.

Dough Bollinger, Ben Hilfenhaus, Albie Morkel etc who dont get to play intheir national team...suddenly became stars once they wore that yellow shirt.

Even domestic players like Shadab Jakarti, Mohit Sharma etc looked better than many international players.

 

Maybe it was captaincy by MSD but there was something in that old CSK side where players performed to the best of their ability. CSK side in 2010 was perhaps the best one ever and much better side than any Indian T20 international team.

Last season all the Puneri fans and owners were saying Dhoni is this , Dhoni is that. While I maintained Dhoni is coming back to Chennai. Puneris should be thanking him for taking the team to Finals.
