Only Toygers know how to get him out. Never thought I would say this, but all teams must watch how their malnourished fellas bowled to him.

I'm doing no such thing. I was told, Smith did something unprecedented in Cricket during 2015 WC. I'm trying to figure out what that is.

He tried not to cheat...

It's not even close

Smith is leagues ahead of Kohli, root and Kane.

calling it fab 4 may not be correct anymore. Smith is in his own league and then the other three come

ATM yes Smith is a bit better in Tests than Kohli. Virat needs to score a couple of hundreds in both SA and ENG series atleast to show that he is consistent in all conditions. When that happens it will be a two dogged race with Smith and Kohli to to prove who is this generation's best test player. ( Kohli is miles better in LOI)

Also there isnt a fab 4 anymore. Root is a hack and hasnt done anything worthwile in ages ( staring at  a 5-0 defeat as captain without a hundred in the series so far) . Same with Williamson. NZ hardly play any tests now so i would discount him in this list for now.

Its between Smith and Kohli now all the way.

He has reached that league. It's now about surpassing them.

Fans of SRT will nevertheless argue that he didn't face the bowlers of the 90s, who were ATGs, and discredit Smith.

He needs more sample set. He has like 5K-6K runs now. Needs more than that to make a clear case he is at their league (whole career wise).

As a batsman, this guy gives me a MORE assured feeling than both SRT and Lara. It's a massive massive project getting him out even once these days. lol.

How he performs post his purple patch will determine his legacy.

when the reflexes go, smith will be lucky to average in the 40s. zero technique, just moves around like a duck. a glorified chanderpaul

He is special.

He will find a way

and besides he is only 28-29 so he has atleast 3-4 years at his peak. He will have cemented his status as anATG well before that

and lol at zero technique. His batting is actually smart. His shuffle and opening of the leg side almost takes out the lbw option meaning that one big avenue of getting him out is removed. Smart I would say

Lol how long will people refer to it as a purple patch. He's been on it since 2013.

That's virtually his whole career. The handful of tests prior to that weren't as a specialist batsmen and he was at number 8.

And yes his textbook is different but it's not suspect. And his stroke play is exciting at times

2013-2017 is a 4 year patch.

If he keeps performing like this for another 5 years, then obviously he is the greatest test batsman ever.

But he isn't likely to. But even if he performs at a reduced level for a period of time, he could still get into SRT/Lara league and still beat them. Depends on how he performs more than mere stats.

Smith has an exaggerated shuffle he relies on hand to eye more than normal balanced batsmen like kohli etc leave alone freak balance categories like Sachin , to play the line as he might judge the line later than say a Sachin. I am not sure but has smith faced express pace ever i am pretty sure he sucks against it. He will have a bigger blind zone because of this shuffle and this blind zone will grow bigger as he looses coordination physics is against him but hey he can become a right handed chanderpaul never say never.

he has played well in SA which has always had 1-2 bowlers capable of hitting 90 mph on a semi-regular basis.

I was hoping he played some game against steyn at 150+ or Akthar but no i guess.. Test with fraction of second less i mean.

Ok needs more research from some one i want to avoid my confirmation bias.

"England needed a wicket. They took a clutch. Steve Smith was out to Finn for the second time in the match, mis-pulling a long hop off a top edge. This seemed to inspire Finn who in the late afternoon sunshine found movement and bounce which befuddled Australia."

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cricket/ashes-2015-steve-finn-claims-five-wickets-as-england-close-in-on-beating-australia-in-third-test-10428676.html

This is 2015 Finn so i guess he had slowed down already

Did smith ever face Finn prime the 150 version ?

faced him a few times but either stewie or finn were not at peak. in the 3rd test of ashes 2015 (for example), finn got stewie out cheaply twice if I remember right.

Ok so express late swing will get him anywhere does not need to be on stumps all the time. Now ind just need to find express late swing bowler..easy peasy..:sheep:
