Overseas Test batting - Dhawan, Rahul, Vijay, Rahane, Pujara - Who should sit out?

From the outset it seems we will have six specialist batsmen slots for our overseas tours.

 

And Kohli and Rohit are guaranteed starters

 

So that leaves five batsmen battling it out for 4 slots. Who sits out?

 

I personally think that KL is best of this lot and Vijay most equipped for overseas tours. Rahane has a history of turning it up in overseas tours.

 

So effectively its Dhawan and Pujara for a middle order spot so naturally it must go to Pujara.

Dhawan must sit out. But if Rahane struggles in the 1st couple of tests he needs to be dropped from the squad...serious confidence and technical issues with him atm.

Following the horses for courses policy, if Kohli flunks in the 1st 2 tests in UK, I will want him dropped for the remaining 3. Unlike you I don't have any special preference, Team India's results are paramount and no individual player is beyond reproach.

rahane comes through for india overseas. i haven't followed cricket for awhile but he was one of the best bats on the last overseas tours. rohit is the easy choice to sit out.

KLR, vijay, chepu, kohli, rahane are the top 5 IMO. when kohli fails in eng as expected, someone else should replace him.

Rohit is going to do very well these away seasons...you can expect double hundreds from Rohit. Vijay will leavathon pujara blockathon as usual Dhawan will hackaquickexit as usual and Kohli will do well in Aus/SA. Rahane will do well in England if he manages to go there.  Kuldeep will be spinner of choice for Ind by the time these away seasons are over.

rahane has been out of form so he shud not be in first test in africa..rahul shud play ahead of him..

Rahane is by far the best batsman in tests when it comes to testing conditions. Even Pujara has failed time and again, and that one down position is the most critical spot in these away conditions when the conditions need to be negotiated. Everyone has already seen how Virat copes with the moving ball.

Rohit is nothing but a flat track bully, on batting pitches he looks in divine touch, any other challenging conditions, and his attitude...his smirk, arrogance ...all are put to rest

Dhawan will start leaving the balls after initial failure and have some success in the series.

Rohit will do something special in sa/eng I have the feeling...few failures but 1-2 knocks to cherish.

if they avg 30, it still counts as better than their overall avg in Eng+Oz+SA. however, an avg of 30 is still quite ordinary. I expect dhawan to do worse than last time, although Rohit could do relatively better than before (but not by much)

30+ avg will be quite good from them actually. Puji vk & rahane has to bulk of scoring. They can get us edge over likes of markram/bavuma/stoneman/stokes/ali at least.

Chepu will also block block block. a lot will depend on his and vijay's blocking, allowing rahane and Kohli to score. although I doubt if VK will score heavily on swing pitches.

Chepu might have learned something from previous tours. Lets see if he can find some way to score runs. We will depend a lot on vk and rahane though.

 

But SA bowling is relentless we need one of steyn morkel rabada to get injured to make it even stevens.
