Settling in a new team , getting to know team players can take some time. He has not played consistently enough with these players. All these failures can only help him in long run. The reason everyone is rooting for him is that he has such a great attitude, humble guy and of course has very good technique to go along with all this. You will see him playing for India and succeeding.

Agree . No one is saying he won’t make it , has excellent chance . Just saying right now silly to say should play for india . Needs time in domestics and A tours . Could need maybe one year or 5 years , time will tell

Like Virat when he was 18/19, Gill has the raw talent. After the 2019 WC, he needs to become Virat's understudy at #4 (eventually to take over the #3 slot after Virat is done) so that he gains experience for the 2023 WC.

Has the potential to be India's next batting superstar. Inconsistency and failure is part of the learning curve so he needs to go through this phase.

But no guarantee will ever make it . Can list plenty of under 19 World Cup superstars and never made it . Classic examples is unmukt chand

but let’s be hopeful and give the lad time .

Very true but Chand was acting like a big shot after the 2012 u-19 WC. Guy released a book and was trying to pass himself off as some sort of great thinker of the game at the precious age of 19 despite doing nowt at senior level.

I think Gill will go farther than Chand. For one thing his basic technique looks good. He has good work ethic like Kohli. Also Yuvraj is giving all the encouragement for him to blossom. It is upto him to go from here.

Kohli made his ODI debut within 6 months after his U19 WC heroics and Kohli was not even as good as Gill at that level. Gill has an average of around 100 in U19 ODIs. we need to do same with Gill, at least against weaker teams when we do not have any FC games. next ranji season will be in October, so, instead of letting him sit around, we should pick and let him play in the nets against our quality fast bowler and spinners. He will certainly benefit when he faces them and might play some games too against weaker sides and when FC season starts, he should be back playing FC games.

Regarding Umukt, he never debuted for India. Who knows his selection quickly after U19 WC had hastened his progress because some players can stagnate or even regress if they keep playing lower grade cricket.

True. I cant explain But some look ready for bigger stage before smaller stage. Letting everyone  slog through the same process would jeopardize our chances of unearthing our future batting superstar. It is not like we have pelthora of batting stars  hogging our batting line up. Probably this is the weakest middle order we have ever had in one day internationals.  It is almost like we won't lose anything  by giving him a chance or two against weaker teams.

Absolutely. And also it's not like we give a free pass to team India for every u19 star.its only the exceptionally bright ones for whom the exceptions can be made and rightly so.

he was batting like a dream in that 25/22 balls, got out to a rubbish half tracker from Gopal, hit straight to the fielder.

He was looking very good. Timing the ball well. Even the ball he got out to was timed well. These are no big boys. He is definitely the next Kohli. His shot execution is shockingly similar to Kohli. He just needs the hunger of Kohli. He will go places.

Even Kohli got lots of 20' and 30's at early stage of his career...

Lots of fixing needs to be done by Gill but he belongs to big boys
