Straight Drive
Correction : Pandey has lower SR than what I mentioned previously. Kedar scores 2 runs more and has SR better by massive 16 runs per 100. Player: Innings/ Average/SR/100/ 50 Kedar Jadhav: 26/ 41.95/ 109.33 /2 / 3 Manish Pandey: 17/ 39.27/ 93.01 /1/ 2 Ajinkya Rahane : 83/ 35.81/ 79.02 / 3/ 24 Edited February 3, 2018 by Straight Drive Link to comment

PSB_Zone
The thing is u cannot play manish and shreyas at no. 5. They are not no. 5 or 6 players. Jadhav is 33 years old, with his fitness not much left in him. Rahul/Rahane/manis/shreyas are all no. 4 contenders only one can play. Link to comment
The Dark Horse
Jadhav is a gun ODI player. Not sure what you're all at. We should be lucky we got an exact replacement of Raina, except Fielding of course. Link to comment

A difference of 16 runs per 100 ball is far to much now-a-days. It is a huge gap that Pandey has to fill if he has to be selected over Kedar. However, Pandya has done much better than Ajinkya as seen in stats posted above. Link to comment

Straight Drive
There are only 3 batsmen in ODI history who are averaging above 40 and have SR over 100. The Average and SR combination that Kedar gives is excellent. Minimum Innings batted is taken as 20 to filter the results. Minimum Innings batted is taken as 20 to filter the results. SR criteria is lowered to 90+. Average criteria is 40+. Edited February 4, 2018 by Straight Drive tweaker, The Dark Horse and velu 1 2 Link to comment

Straight Drive
One more stat: Criteria: (1) Minimum 17 innings (Just to get Manish Pandey in comparison as well along other Indian ODI players who have batted in more innings than him) (2) Minimum average 35 and above (Brings in more number of players) Those marked in green are not retired from ODI. They are best at no.4, which Rahane has been stationed at the moment. If Jadhav has to be replaced it has to be by someone like Krunal Pandya or Vijay Shankar who can hit some quick runs and bowl a few when needed. So to answer the OP's question, Pandey and Iyer are fighting for Rahane's spot at 4 and not Jadhav's. With regards to fielding as well, let's get Krunal or Shankar into squad and play him in place of Jadhav to see how they go. Edited February 4, 2018 by Forever Indian The Dark Horse 1 Link to comment

He's more likely to come in with 4 outfielders in overs 10-40 at that position. And he is very good at hitting gap boundaries - better than he is at hitting power boundaries. Link to comment
Straight Drive
Ajinkya Rahane has a bad combination of Average and SR for this age ODI. Averaging 36 at SR of 39 where we have better option in Manish Pandey with avg of 39 @ SR 93. Pandey is also a good fielder like Ajinkya. Link to comment
