Why do some South Indians can speak Hindi fluently while many can't?

Absolutely, specially if they're in services sector like Banks, shops etc. IT folks may still escape, coz speaking English is considered "cool" in tier 1 cities.

Although, In Hyderabad, you go to areas like Abids, Koti, King Koti. So many marwari shops are there...they fluently switch to Hindi, English, Telugu depending on the type of audience.

 

While in the same area there are "Hyderabadi logaan" shops as well, they don't know "language of land".

I agree that MH state and national highways are poorly maintained. I frequently travel by car between Hyd-Vns and the places in MH like Hinganghat, ButiBori has 3rd class NH's. It's only when I cross Nagpur bypass, roads improve. In comparison, Telangana, UP and MP roads are at a different level. Though I have seen some improvement, when I travelled to Pandharpur and Parli Vaijnath in month of May'25. So it seems govt is taking care of the roads. 

Taking about points
Scenario 1: Software Industry is heavily dependent on human resources. The engineering graduates from North are higher in Number, hence they're allocated to different parts of country. Companies also try their best to not push a fresher in his home state. Also, significant amount of students in South, do move abroad for higher studies. In North, mostly people do the graduation and then start looking for job.

Scenario 2: A person looking for job don't have much say in this. Whether it's fresher or experienced professional. Living in a metro isn't easy. And companies will keep on moving the folks from one town to other based on the job requirement. For ex. My Prog Director was a fellow from Paradeep (OD), and he was in Bhubaneshwar with his family settled. Last Aug, company decided to shut the BBSR office and moved the entire workforce to Hyd for logistical reasons. He was given 2 choice, either to resign or move. That fellow has 2 kids, one in 10th and other in 5rd...he had to shift along coz bills don't come for free, and options to switch in BBSR is less. Unless you're in Pune, Bengaluru or Hyderabad...many folks don't have choice.

Thirdly, about UP. It "used to" have high crime rate. I won't go much in details as it might sound boring to you, but to summarize...when the entire country was riding on the wave of liberalisation. Both UP and Bihar were struggling with governments which were highly communal. By the time in 2005-06 those states became free, the ship had already sailed, now UP is trying to catchup. But setting up a new ecosystem takes time and resources. And you know anyway, how much our private players are ready to take "risk". It's all dependent on govt.

Now, UP still has tremendous amount of industries...Agro based, Defence, Leather, Cement, Railways, Sports. Border towns of UP/MP are the cement lifeline of country, you will also find high amount of Bauxite. Limestone and other minerals. Singrauli/Shaktinagar belt of MP/UP/CG is coal/energy capital of India. Meerut's cricket bats are best in India.
So, change is happening on the ground, Leather industry which was dying slow death is currently revived. Yogi govt. has setup UPIDC where Defence Sectors will heavily manufacture arms for Indian Defence. But these industries will take time to run at full pace, maybe next 8-10 years. 

Surprised that there are more engineering grafuates from North than in South. 

 

Thanks for the update and ground report that UP is improving under Yogi. Happy to read that this lack of employment in UP will be solved im coming years.  This is the optimal solution imo. So the higher engineering graduates from North need not worry anymore. Such change should also happen in other states where lack of jobs is a problem like West Bengal. This is what India needs. A collective growth not just few states growing and others being almost stagnant.

Surprised this goes on and is justified in age of Ai language translator apps. 

 

People creating issues on this are just seperatists. Normal people don't have any problem. Curiously even those thugs don't have problem with English lol

Two questions:

(1) Why do some message board posters post with correct English grammar while some can't?

(2) Why do some posters read thread titles correctly right away, while it takes others over 7 years?

Tamil Nadu never stops anyone from learning any language they want. For example I studied in Delhi till year 2 and then moved to Chennai after that. From 3rd -12th, I studied Hindi as my second language. I had to learn Tamil as my third language until 5th and I did not have to learn Tamil after that. Kids in my school even took French as their second language in schools to get higher scores in 12th and they are not forced to take Tamil. So it is just the interest of the students and parents if they want to learn Hindi or not. Myself, my sister and my cousins took Hindi as our second language. My Grandmother who grew up in Banaras, was a Hindi teacher in a prominent school in Chennai. My mother, my uncle and us kids all learnt Hindi as our second language without any restrictions. It has nothing to do with the state, Tamil Nadu education system is pretty open in terms of what language the students want to learn. In most of the private schools kids can choose any language as their second language. Not sure how many states in India allow that.

Ya telangana didn’t had much eng seats. Chandrababu gave permission for more colleges. This reduced lot of people going to Karnataka and participating in KCET. This used to be a regular conversation in Telangana on which college to go in Karnataka

Majority of the folks migrate to other states.

MP, MH, Karnataka has huge amount of students from states like UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal etc who will migrate for the education.
