Moochad Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/23920270/icc-survey-reveals-billion-fans-90-subcontinent Quote The ICC reaffirmed this even as they make public the results of a first, comprehensive global market research, one it hopes will guide them in growing the game further. The research threw up some eye-catching figures: over one billion fans; nearly 300 million participants; and nearly 40% of all fans being female. The survey was carried out in the 12 Full Member countries, and China and the USA - the latter two because they've been identified as non-traditional markets with huge potential for growth. That growth, however, will be channelled through the shortest format. The survey did not ask fans direct questions on what they thought about the size of the 50-over World Cup, and neither was it carried out in major Associate Member countries. It looks like T20 will be the format of the future for cricket with a 92% approval rate UrmiSinhaRay, velu, Stuge and 1 other 1 3
Moochad Posted June 27, 2018 Author Posted June 27, 2018 Quote Based on a modelling exercise, the research estimates 952 million fans in the 14 countries surveyed (and 87 million outside of those countries), of whom nearly 90% come from the subcontinent. This number will rise once a similar survey is done of Under-16 fans 87% of fans want cricket in the Olympics 68% of cricket fans are interested in women's cricket, 65% in the Women's World Cup and 70% want to see more live coverage of women's cricket Nearly 70% of the 19,000-plus (between ages 16-69) sample expressed an interest in Test cricket, which, it would appear from this survey, is not dying UrmiSinhaRay and Tibarn 1 1
Vilander Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 wonder how they define a fan. some one who has spent a dime for watching cricket either in mass media or stadium i guess. UrmiSinhaRay 1

Even viewership ob TV matters because that is what brings the most moolah. Stuge and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1
velu Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 most of the die hard test match fans simply pretend to love tests because they are in a wrong impression that test match is for classy fans UrmiSinhaRay, beetle and Singh bling 1 1 1
G_B_ Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 does that really come as a surprise when India itself has more population than all other test playing nations? UrmiSinhaRay 1
Tibarn Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Test cricket with 70% approval and T20 with 92% approval. No mention of ODIs it looks like. Hopefully they are also still popular and weren't cannibalized by T20s. ICC ruined the quality of ODIs by trying to turn them into extended T20s. T20s are fine as there are, and ODIs were best in 2011 era where 6 rpo was actually an achievement. Bring back 1 new ball rule to bring reverse swing and spin back into the game and restore some semblance of balance to the format. Mosher, Laaloo, Gollum and 1 other 1 3
Stuge Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Who were the participants ? can we have most details on this .
