Was mysteriously dumped after a stellar debut series vs SL in late 2017 and even a decent enough SA series in 2018.

 

Was never seen  until after 2019 WC.

I will wait. Generally in one dayers those surfaces are flat pancakes like we made 283 in the T20 match. Even edges will fly for sixes. Only for Tests they roll out those dicy pitches.

He was uncomfortable even on those,

Not saying he should be totally ignored but good alternatives should be there,

Can't bank on him on surfaces which have slightest of bounce,i see him as the poorest player of bounce,seen him struggle even to those short deliveries which are on 4-5th stump lines

Unfortunately under pressure everyone else "shi**ing themselves" lol He is the only guy who stood up under pressure all 4 times.

I would even say that he should be the captain as Rohit's fitness cannot be guaranteed.

He has done extremely well in pressure situations infact is been best,hope he doesn't get unnecessarily tempted to play those pulls on surfaces which have bounce

Iyer deserves a spot in ODIs and in fact wouldn't mind him in the T20s as well in place of SKY. Plus he can be the white-ball captain for ODIs and T20s we're looking for if BCCI doesn't want to go with Pandya.

SKY is beginning to look like an IPL and bilateral bully. He has to stop forcing shots in the Fine Leg region. World has caught on to it. Iyer has a much more rounded game. With the next WT20 in India, Iyer gives me much more confidence at 4 than SKY.

Tbh, he has done his job well. Integral part of CT win here (apart from batting don't forget his game changing run out of Carey in SF), fabulous WC in 23 and that brilliant SF 100 in Wankhede. Nov 19th was a failure, I agree, but for his abilities/talent, he has exceeded expectations. Even in tests, was our best player against NZ in 21, saved us from humiliation in Mirpur test. 

 

Even if he doesn't play for India again, he will be remembered fondly by most Indian fans. Anyone who can get the most out of himself deserves respect IMO, Shreyas and Axar are shining examples in that regard. Usually we see this more in Aussie players, honest triers who are mentally tough and somehow find a way to contribute in big occasions. 

 

Wish guys like Gill, KL, Shaw, DK had achieved their full potential and showed similar mental toughness. Because they all had/have much higher ceiling than someone like Iyer.

Shreyas, Axar would have been enough to handle those pesky Kiwis last year. At least we would have won the series 2-1 and booked a spot in WTC F. 

 

Axar is probably our most assured batsman against spin (standout in 23 BGT) and Iyer loves bashing Kiwis, also has luck against them which is an underrated aspect of the game. Kohli for instance has always been damn unlucky against Kiwis but fares better against RSA, Eng. Head has luck against us, Elgar before him.

I fully understand your point about his mental strength,he is a high pedigree batsman but planning for CWC should be comprehensive as the conditions will be slightly different,high scoring with bounce like we had in Aus 2015

Should be there and start as well but if he falters we should have his alternatives ready like we had Raina for Yousuf ready in 2011 or Aus did with Carry by bringing Inglis (should be ready)

I have doubts over paindu Gill too,Sai should be brought in, if his paindugiri continues

SKY so far has been super successful as a T20I captain but his own returns with the bat make him a weak link in the side filled with stroke makers.

 

Iyer will lead PBKS so it will depend how he handles captaincy in IPL.

IMO if he turns around PBKS and SKY continues to have a lean run, India should look at replacing SKY with Iyer. TBH I wanted Pandya as the white-ball captain with someone like Iyer as his deputy who takes over when Pandya is not available. The problem with SKY is that he's a stop-gap captain as he won't be around for long. Plus he'll never be the captain of the ODI side and my preference is for the same captain in white-ball cricket.
