England has all the bases covered, they have leg spinner, offspinner and pace bowler along with allrounders.

allrounder? what's that. I thought you don't believe in those.

I don't believe in bits and pieces players masquerading as allrounders.

How would you describe Moeen Ali then?  Do you know how many overs Ben Stokes bowls on average in ODI cricket?

Seems like a mild case of safedi ki chamkaar.

Moeen Ali in test cricket is their frontline spinner who ran through our famed batting line up more than a few times. Merits his place as their main spinner. Bonus he can bat.

Ben Stokes bats at the important No.5 position in ODIs and has odi 100s. Not used as a hoicker. bonus he can bowl

Before you go all dhokla on me, I am not a Pandya hater, he has his merits given the other crap we have in our team, however he is at best a bits and pieces player not accomplished in any department.

I enjoyed that.  And now I'm hungry. :)

Don't get your panties twisted, my point is made.  India too could have made a Moeen Ali out of a Shreyas Gopal or a K Goutham, if they had tried.  Same thing with Pandya jr's batting, given 8-10 chances to bat at #5, he could have proven himself as a legit option.  But we have old has-beens to pamper, so can't afford such "radical" experiments, no matter how glaringly obvious they are.  Not to mention an ganguly style ball-sucking opener who consistently digs a hole for the team and then gets out, 7 out of 10 times.

We had 2 of those in  Ahswin and Jadeja who belong in the same category give or take.

Jayant had a good start with both bat and ball and is today no where in the scheme of things. Does he even have a C contract?

K Goutham, K Pandya are the same bits and pieces kind we are already discussing above. They can never be a long term option

Gopal might have been a good option, a genuine bowler who can bat a bit.

Ben Stokes and Ali work for England as they don't have just five bowlers. They have seven bowling options. India on other hand when they play Pandya or Shankar  have barely five.

That is the difference, when you play play like Pandya or Shankar. You need those extra bowling options plus all their bowlers can bat and Indian bowlers are no 11 at best.

This has got nothing to do with Safedi ki Chamtkaar. Aren't you the guy who said Rohit Sharma needs to removed as an opener.

If you don't give players opportunities to develop, you'll never know if a guy that's been pigeonholed as a 'bits and pieces" can ever evolve into more.  If Rohit "Maggi Noodles" Sharma had not been given an opportunity to open in ODIs, he would be getting fat off of bread pudding and vada pao for the last 5 years.

Now I don't know if a Goutham or Gopal can be the answer for that lower middle order.  But you can't just write off players without giving them chances.  Or mabye you can, if you are ignorant enough to anoint Ben Duckett as future ATG off a few shots hit against Bangladesh.

Well apparently the English cricket board believes in his potential by giving him repeated chances. I am happy to be on the same page as a cricketing board with plenty of guys who understand the game than being upset that some bozo on the internet disagrees with me.

ATG Potential doesn’t translate to ATG career.

Any update on Jermaine Blackwood's ATG potential?
