Indian cricket's age-fraud problem

Wow, shocking that our WC U19 win is now tainted by cheats like these :whack3:

Manjot Kalra, who struck a match-winning century in the Under-19 World Cup final last year, is in the dock for providing an incorrect date of birth. In 2017, he was cleared by the BCCI but was hauled up by the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) after disgruntled parents of fellow Under-19 cricketers in Delhi alleged that Kalra had provided false information. An investigation by the Delhi police has revealed Kalra is a year older than furnished, which made him ineligible to participate in the Under-19 World Cup.

In the same year, Nitish Rana was among 22 cricketers barred by the BCCI for representing Delhi in age-group tournaments after discrepancies were discovered in their dates of birth. Rana, already an established member of Delhi's senior team, is yet to incur any reprimand or fine, since the BCCI is seeking a legal opinion to ascertain if the complainant has to be the board or the state association. The case is ongoing.

In September 2011, Ankit Bawne was removed from the India Under-19 squad after the date of birth in his passport didn't match the one in his birth certificate and the BCCI's records. Bawne protested that the agent who arranged for his passport had messed up the date. The selectors, not wanting to take a risk, left him out and Unmukt Chand took over the captaincy.

This isn't limited to cricket but general.population

So many parents lie about their kids birth year to get into school early, this then sticks on the school leaving certificate, which used to make passports, which then conflicts with birth certificate dates...bloody mess

Karla issue is going on since 2014-15 but BCCI had cleared Kalra after investigation before world cup, so, I dont get why are they making fuss about it now.  Same with Ankit Bawne, he did not do age fraud because issue was not with his birth certificate but with passport where wrong age was mentioned by the agent who h ad made it which happens a lot.

The Delhi Police found out he faked the age related documents, after the WC I presume, so your info seems wrong or outdated. OR was this Kalra police case you already knew about? Bawne seems to be in the clear but then Rana also faked his age, so 2/3 upcoming potential stars in this mess!

Even Rana case is from same 2014-15 period.  It was Kirti Azad who filed an FIR against 20 plus players at that time.  Kalra and Rana were two of them.  Kalra was playing U14 then. Delhi police findings. How true are those also a question mark? How it happened suddenly now and not in last 4-5 years when FIR was filed.  This case has been absolutely murky and marred by ambitions of Kirti Azad to become DDCA president.

It is learnt Delhi Police had earlier registered FIRs in the years 2014/2015 on the basis of complaints made by former Delhi skipper Kirti Azad against parents of players who were involved in producing fake birth certificates of their wards.

Issues were there in 2017 as well when he was picked in Delhi U19 side.

DDCA also had a defamation suit against Azad who then he settled it out of the court.  There is a long history between DDCA and Kirti Azad.

In North India DOB is changed in school certificates early on so that they can claim to be younger than they actually are. That's why you see bald headed folks with pimples on their face claiming to be 24 or 25.

It does not happen anymore.  It used to when you did not have proper birth certificates in 80s and before.  Now hospitals issue birth certificate immediately especially people living in cities and towns.
