 Jadhav on the other hand seems to have already reached the limit of his abilities and really should be replaced by Pant. However I think the only reason he is there is because there are so many teams that are dreadful against spin or anything resembling spin. 

  

Until India doesn't find a decent batsman who can bowl a few overs of slow bowling, Jadhav will be around. In the past Sehwag and Yuvraj filled the void of extra bowler on slow pitches, now there is nobody (except Jaddu)

Rohit, Kohli used to bowl but strangely they have completely given up bowling. If they had practiced regularly, they could have been decent part time options in ODIs if one bowler had an off day. Now apart from 4 front line bowlers and Hardik, there are no other bowling options apart from Jadhav who is not that good to begin with IMO.

This is like Piyush Chawla case ,where he was supposed to gain Confidence after every match during  initial stages of WC 2011 ...after gaining all the confidence ,he was nowhere to be seen in  WC Final playing XI

He has test centuries in England and Australia and averages 50 in his short career. Dhoni hasnt scored a test century outside SC.

Since he started playing for India, Shankar has not hit even a single 50, across 12 LOIs and 13 IPL matches fwiw. I follow domestic cricket diligently but can’t remember a FC / List A 100 by Shankar in last couple of years. He did hit 1 50 in 2018 IPL and a couple of 50s for Ind A.

 

Not sure if Kohli is even aware of this.

Kohli will want Dhoni to continue for another couple of years, not just for this tournament. Even after those 2 years he might opt for a part timer like Rahul to keep wickets. Pant better start practicing wrist spin bowling to stand any chance of selection.

Off course a captain should give such statements to boost the player's confidence ,you cant expect him to say that he's a loser and will be dropped sooner lol
