6 wkt haul for ashwin in 2nd innings as well

12th wkt in this game

3rd consecutive 5th wkt haul

Before we get on the high horses , did you guys see the pitch and opposition spinner did better . Samit Vaida had an 8' fer.

Ashwin needs to push himself when the pitch doesnt help him.

To put things in perspective, a 20 yr old off spinner, Amar Virdi, playing his first FC match of the season, has already taken 10/79 and completely outbowled Ashwin (12/144) so far.

To put things even more vividly, this is the same Ashwin that played division 2 a couple of years back & did well, given the lack of quality batters, in England. Then failed to show up vs SA, England in crucial stages of the tests & series. He also took the spot of a more deserving Jadeja & was rightly dropped in England. This guy is just good for domestics, I'll pick Jad any day & every day over him+twice on weekends :partyall:

Ashwin made 27 & 67 not out in the same match. May be the nottingham batsmen are hopeless compared to Surrey? Surrey has 4 former test batsmen in their line up.  Look at Nottinghamshire. They are att he bottom of the table. Played 10 matches this season so far. lost 7. drawn 3.  Many top bowlers have been "outbowled" at the internationals. Many no name Indian bowlers outbowled Warne when he toured india. Reason is they were not bowling to the same set of batsmen.

It has been good county season for Ashwin so far. I am surprised that Pujara and Ishant did not play county this season. Pujara last played competitive match in March and Ishant last played competitive match in May. When test championship starts both of these players will be rusty.

So in that last match, Ashwin:

- Took the most wickets for his team in the first innings

- Scored the most runs for his team in the first innings

- Took the most wickets for his team in the second innings

- Scored the most runs for his team in the second innings

Frankly after how he ditched the team on all the last away tour cycle turning up unfit and being injured on all the tours, Ashwin should no longer be our first choice spinner in Tests, irrespective of how he performs in county cricket. Kuldeep had a 5-er in his last Test (in Aus) and deserves to play ahead of him with Jadeja as our lead spinner at home and in spin friendly away conditions.

Kuldeep pretty much has similar problem as Ashwin. He is even slower than Ashwin. When there is not much bounce he will give enough time for batsmen to adjust. I will keep the options open. It won't be long before Kuldeep gets found out and people would cry from the roof top for his exclusion. We need to develop another right arm wristie.

Besides Ashwin is a very close to a specialist batsman especially overseas.

Ashwin in Australia played 1 test picked 6 wickets at an average of 24.83.  Jadeja played 2 tests picked 7 wickets at an average of 28.57 Ashwin's Economy was 1.71. Jadeja's economy was 2.24.  Kuldeep got to play on the most spin friendly wicket in Australia Sydney with a score of 622/7 in the bank. How is that even a fair comparison.  3 of his wickets were tailenders.

It was also the flattest track, unlike Adelaide, not to mention Lyon outbowled Ashwin in India & Oz+Ali outbowled Ashwin in England. If his 5 or 6 away tours aren't proof enough, you'll never see past this pretender. Frankly most of our spinners need help from the wickets to flourish, out of all of them (on such tracks) Jad is the best & the most reliable by far!

"outbowled" is once again relative. They don't bowl to the same batsmen. In all honestly someone like Kohli should never get out to Lyon. But he gets out to MOeen Ali as well. It is a sign of weakness. THen we have clueless Rahane against spin.

If Ashwin can push his batting further, I don't see why he cannot make it to the ODI 15. Mind you, I am not saying he will get into the XI, but he could push Jaddu for the 3rd spinner.

For ODIs:

Left-arm wristspin: Kuldeep

Leg spin: Chahal (should be phased out after WC), Gopal, Rahul Chahar

Left-arm orthodox: Jaddu, Axar, Anukul (none particularly appealing)

Off spin: Ashwin, ??? (cannot see young offies coming through)

Washington bats better and bowls taller than Ashwin so has natural bounce.
