When someone brings up his bowling the argument is he is not a full time bowler, just bowls a few military medium seam-ups. Which means his batting should guarantee him a slot which makes him compete with Samson and Gill or even Pandey etc. Is he a better batsman than them? that makes him a bits and pieces in my book and sorry I have a strong bias for bits and pieces players in general. Just a 1 or 2 overs of medium pace shouldn't' make someone leapfrog over other deserving batters. That is the point I was making in the other thread.

He is so insecure, he has stopped even playing his natural game. He is also trying to bat like Kohli. Did anyone stop Rahul from batting well in test cricket.Did anyone stop Rahul from scoring well in world cup semi finals. Why is Rahul who consistently has flopped in other formats should be given chances in all formats. Rahul is last person who can complain about not getting enough chances. Nobody is making Rahul to bat like Kohli it is his insecurity and constant failures which are making him bat differently.

Because each format is different and good performances in one format can help those playing all formats regain their lost form in other formats. When Kohli was failing in Tests early in his career, his ODI form kept him in the Test squad. Rohit's white ball form has got him into the Test team, Dhawan's ODI form got him into T20 and Test teams, Bumrah's white ball form got him into the Test squad. Jadeja's made a LOI comeback purely n his Test form. I hope Mayank's Test batting, gets him a spot in our white ball teams soon. If a team management cannot differentiate between formats and screws up one player after another, questions need to be asked to the TM and not just to individual players. Rahul has been our most successful T20 opener, yet this TM keeps picking Dhawan over him and are in the process of destroying him forever. He should not be in Tests and ODIs, but T20s, he should be among the first names on the team sheer as an opener every single time. raki05 1

He was getting opportunities regularly in T20s before the WC . He played all 3 T20s in Aus, all 3 against Wi at home, 2 against Aus at home(did ok in that series) and missed the NZ T20s because of the coffee fiasco. He has missed only two T20s after the WC in the Windies to accomodate a returning Dhawan. Look I want him to do well too like all of us but he must show signs of his brilliance every now and then. This has not been happening consistently enough. In his last 12 T20s he averages 25 and is striking at 125. What happened in T20Is in 2017 that has not happened ever since for Rahul? He was opening in 2017 and then suddenly TM had an IOU with Dhawan and pushed Rahul to 3/4. If this is what you call giving opportunities, sure ,send Kohli at 4/5 in a few ODIs or or Rohit back to the middle order and see how they struggle to 'adjust'

Each format is different thats why the success in T20s got him into other formats and kept him in the team inspite of his massive failures for two years. Nobody is to be blamed if TM think he will not cut it or has to be given a break. His good IPL got him into world cup squad when Mayank would have been better choice. You are just assuming he will walk into the T20 team and become a grand success, batting is batting and form does matter. If it was the case Rahul would have scored some runs yesterday instead of limping out.Stop blaming TM for everything and start blaming player too. TM is not perfect, but they have cater other players too not just one guy who is huge failure in all other formats. Edited November 4, 2019 by putrevus

He had test 100s overseas even before he played T20s. Also, Rahul had quite a successful WC for someone who had barely played 10 ODIs. He scored most number of runs for any Indian in his maiden WC.

When players become insecure, TM changes and chops players at it's whims, players lose their confidence and it impacts their performance. If you do not get this simple fact, no point in arguing further. On the WC, 300+ runs as an opener@47 despite being asked to fill that role in the middle of the tournament wasn't a bad performance at all. But just when he was regaining confidence, what happened? He was dropped from the next ODIs. That is the speciality of this TM Edited November 5, 2019 by ShoonyaSifar raki05 1
raki05 Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 As everyone saying choosing right player for right format is very important. And also giving opportunity at right time is important.you should be sympathetic to younger player while communicate to them even when they are dropped. This TM+Selectors+Commentators are uter chodu .You drop players when they are not performing give them a break but if you are choosing them choose them at right time when they are in form. Like Mayank right now he is in form of his life but rather than bringing and grooming him, the top 3 LL never compromise with their position and play every irrelevant series even against minnows not only that even take their positions in t20 and in most of the tournaments they consume first 10 overs and expect younger ones to do mirlracle at middle order inspite if new players are cut to play in opening slots. They criticize younger players in public but don't have balls to say anything against seniors, you can't groom players when you are already consuming 60-80 percent of overs in easier format.
express bowling Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 (edited) Let's take the case of Kuldeep Yadav This young man has 35 wickets from just 18 T20Is ( freaking 2 wickets per match ) at an awesome average of 12.97 and ER of just 6.7 But he is not even in the T20I squad. He has taken 24 wickets from just 6 tests and averages 24. Took a 5 wicket haul in the last test he played ... that too in Australia. Was declared as the first choice spinner away from home by our coach after that. And has been dropped in every subsequent test match after that, both away and at home. With this kind of treatment meted our to youngsters by this TM and selectors ... we will be lucky if even a single youngster develops till this attitude prevails. Instilling confidence in the youngster plays a big part in his development process. And it must be said that the selection of some very mediocre youngsters in the national team ... who do not deserve to be picked in the first place let alone backed ... have also blocked the spots of deserving youngsters and impeded their development process. You are spot on.Question remains why is TM is giving young players like Khaleel Ahmed (I don't think he offers much) so many chances but denying or putting undue pressure on performers and match winners like Kuldeep and Pant. Second Question is who is responsible for ignoring Young fast bowlers. Kohli is out and out backer of pace bowling. If that is the case why are we seeing this trundler brigade in T20 teams and I have not one seen fast bowler in Deodhar trophy either it was filled with Trundlers who have nothing to offer for Indian cricket. That is the speciality of this TM Calling some one most successful T20 opener for India after 14 matches as an opener is ridiculous Rahul has zero hundreds as an opener. Stop with that nonsensical theory that TM is changing and choping as it does not apply to Rahul. Rahul was played continuously in all the test matches in 4 different continents for two years. If that is not backing his talent tell me what is backing his talent. Mayank would have done same if not better and there was nothing great about Rahul's performance in the world cup.Mayank is already showing how big mistake it was to choose Rahul over him. There are only few chances any player gets Rahul has gotten plenty. You don't get chances in every format. Yuvraj Singh despite being very good ODI player never got chances continuously in test cricket.VVS was always on choping block till Ganguly retired. Rahul is not better than top3 in odis thats why he was overlooked in odis, he did not merit a place,When there was an opening he got his chances because TM thinks he is talented. I still don't think he is good fit for no4.Is he better than Dhawan in T20s yes he is but what would do if you were TM.
