most worrying trend

This indian team is old and getting older. The most worrying trend is that new players are not establishing themselves quickly, even players who have done well like Kuldeep have regressed.its forcing selectors to pick players like Dhawan who is clearly past his prime.the most glaring case is pritvi shaw whose career may be derailed  permanently.

We used to have players who would show some early promise and needed backing in their first few years. They would grow in stature eventually and end up as world beaters. Some prime examples are Yuvraj Singh, Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Jadeja etc. Others would make serious improvements on weaker aspects of their game or develop new specialist roles. Dhoni, Laxman's evolution as late order Odi/Test batsmen were on the job developments. So was Harbhajan's batting, Ganguly's leg side play, Dravid's ODI strike rotation etc.

This trend seems to be dying out especially with our new batting talent. Most disappointing is KL Rahul's case.He seemed to have a very complete skill set in his initial days. However instead of growing and taking greater responsibility he still appears as if he is finding his feet in international cricket. Pant seems to be headed the same way too.

The most important thing you are missing is assurity,no player will play freely if his place is constantly be under threat, player's need to be backed and allowed to express themselves, yuvraj and raina for all there weaknesses were backed by Ganguly, Dhoni, the current TM lacks that.

Does the TM even care about a young player? Which young player has been groomed under Kohli-Shastri?

What message are the youngsters being given when they see even those younger guys who have done well getting shoddily treated under this team management. Which team in the world dismantles such a successful attacking duo like Chahal-Kuldeep in a matter of months like we have done. Ditto with Rahul the T20 player and obviously Pant.

This TM clearly does not show much faith in youngsters. They already got pinched in WC, other ICC tournaments will also see similar performances.

These jokers will not hesitate to go back to Raina, Dhoni and Ashwin for the next T20 WC.

One of the most worrying thing is we are mediocre team in T20s and most of our players including Kohli are ODI specialists. We hardly have T20 players and above all two back to back T20 WCs are knocking door in near future. Expecting big thrashing in those WCs

India has to factor in mental aspect as well. Some guys are nervous.  I don't say include him. But i liked the confidence maturity level of Ryan Parag. Also if Dubey is not going to bowl, you would rather give chance to Samson a legit batsman? or Gill?

Rahul scored a fantastic 100 at no 4 vs Windies at the beginning of his T20 career. For a very long time after this he has been viewed purely as a backup opener/ top order bat and hence his opportunities have dried up with our big three performing well. This exteme rigidity with batting positions is also not helpful.

Comparatively speaking, selectors have reposed greater faith in Rahul than others like Rahane, Karthik, Pandey, Rayudu etc(in some cases justifiably). At times even Virat has sacrificed his position at 3 to accomodate him. Rahul's returns have been poor. And with each passing game this is becoming more glaringly obvious. It is very disappointing for his admirers like me.

To be honest his returns in t20 hasnt been poor, we mix formats while looking at that. He did well in wc to be dropped from odi to. His test form was awfull

Samson n gill arent lower order player , dubey is a specialist lower order power hitter - his replacements can only be dk, sky at this point.

Dubey is 6th bowler n they wnt be bowled every game specially in india with his style of bowling

Of couse he is best batsman for us but still he is much better in ODI's than T20s. If some team score 220 in knockout game against us then you need very big hitters who can smash 5-6 sixes , Kohli is not one of them

Every player cant play similar role, all add diff thing

Gayle wnt be as consistent as kohli, kohli wnt have that impact .....u need both kind of players

We have blooded in KL,Pant, dube, hardik.....all of them hit sixes even rohit hit a lot. So we are on right track

KL and Pant are failing again and again , still waiting for ipl type fireworks. Dube is new kid . Yes Hardik is good hitter but he needs to take himself at stokes level.

Sorry to say but time for T20 WCs is now less. Even Australia has started throwing Starc and Cummins in T20s. It clearly shows they are on full throttle for preparation for T20 WCs.

They have also been under pressure from public, TM n media....not easy with such pressure. Its nothing new most youngsters go through this inconsistency

KL has had very good record in t20 so cant say he is only failing. he is struggling in other formats

Stokes is more of a middle order batsman n Pandya lower....stokes has played enough and improved. Players improve with time we have to give hardik similar time to have same expectation

Under kohli neways i have no hope of us winning a tournaments . Ill be happy if we are able to settle some youngsters through t20

you guys mentioned Pant and Rahul who are classic cases, they have enough chances to cement their places in the team but have done nothing but regress against early promise.the key is not big scores but to show consistency, you cant fail 6-7 matches and score a 50 and everything is peaches.

Rahul has been highly consistent in t20.......

Pant- just been playing for a year or so......rohit, yuvi, zak all these guys took 5-6 yrs to be consistent.

Pant scored a 50- 4 matches ago

KL scored 50 -3 games ago

Kaha hue 6-7 match bina 50 ke

Pant's T20 career vs IPL career. Stark contrast.
