He did not fake it play U 19 etc. The way he is bowling now I could care less if he was 90. Actually it does right? If your planning for wc 2023 then would a 38 year old be top of your future planning? If we judge jadhav differently due to his age then the same criteria applies to shami Then there is an issue of injuries and fatigue. Dada's Army 1

Not saying it is the right thing but he is gaining no advantage doing this. It's not true that age fudging can't provide a player with any advantage as long as he doesn't play U19. When choosing amongst similarly talented amateurs, a state team may choose the age-fudged player for their Ranji team and state setup as he is seen as being the most talented. Those other players then unfairly miss out. Shami made his FC debut at the listed age of 20, so still young. Also, an age-fudged player's path to the national side may be helped by the same perception, with his 'young age' only underlining his domestic performances. I'm not sure this one applies to Shami but in theory it could. Obviously, the player then has to thrive once he's given those chances so I'm not picking too much on Shami as age fudging is not the reason he's one of the best in the world. Clearly, he is very talented. Also, he won't be first one to have done it, if he indeed has. The reason I've mentioned him is because how obvious the age fudging seems in his case. And 8 years! That's a Great British Bakeoff winning level of fudge .

Jadhav was borderline for his position, Shammi is top of the line.

If a 28 yrs old is bowling better than a 23 yr old it would be stupid to pick the 23 yr old. Let us be happpy that the system worked for a player from a poor region that does not have the representation that Mumbai, Bangalore or Delhi has. He made it, he is successful and we should be happy. Can you name one player he is holding back because of his age? Name one who is not getting a chance because of him. I am very very proud of Shammi and his accomplishments. nevada 1
Real McCoy Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 He is still 18 silly. Don't hate on the youngster
express bowling Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Is it possible for a 35 year old to bowl 135 k to 145 k / 147 k with bounce ... spell after spell ? ( Unless he was a 145 k to 155 k pacer earlier, which he wasn't ) Just because someone looks old does not mean he is old. Just go to a class reunion after a few years of passing out ... all are of same age but they look like they are from a wide age range. Umesh Yadav, at an official age of 31 / 32 was / is bowling much slower than his first 6 years of international cricket. Who knows, he might be a young looking 35 year old actually. While Shami might be a old looking 30 year old. Rightarmfast 1

I am not saying drop shami He continues to bowl like this then by all means pick him for t20 wc next year and he should feature in the test wc if India make it. However if you overbowl him for eg thinking he is 29 and can recover quickly and he is really 33 to 34, then that is just a recipe for injury. Its actually not fair on shami. Age does matter. That is the truth.

ganeshran Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 There should be zero tolerance for age fudging, regardless of whether they are playing for U16 or U19. and the onus is on players to prove their age without doubt.

That is the truth. usually they say bowlers peak between 28-30 and batsmen between 30-35 but it works opposite with our fast bowlers. Apart from Kapil who went down hill in his late 20's, Zak,Srinath and even someone like Nehra became way more reliable bowlers in their early 30's. Even Umesh, Ishant look leagues better than what they were in their mid 20's Rightarmfast 1
