Who was the bigger loss - Irfan or Munaf?

Munaf Patel has to be the second laziest cricketer person I've come across.

There was this IPL game, where he was fielding on the boundary. It was against KKR, I think. The batsman hit a fine shot and the ball was racing towards Munaf Patel. All he had to do was move 2-3 steps to his right to stop the ball. He didn't move. He watched the ball as it slowly crossed the boundary. The crowd was laughing at him. In return what did Munaf Patel do; he sheepishly grinned back.

 

Having said that, he was good in the WC that we won. 

 

Haven't seen much of Irfan Pathan's matches. But his brother however, was a destructive T20 player.

That was the problem with Fab 4 era, they had no clue together on how to use fast bowlers.They kept touring multiple times to SENA countries but how many fast bowlers survived to tour second time.

 

Most of these fast bowlers burst unto scenes talented and bowling pretty fast but overuse and lack of proper guidance doomed them.Most of them turned into trundlers.Dhoni seems to have learnt same things as nothing changed under him too.

I remember when munaf made headlines against Eng in a board president match.He used to be nippy 140kph. But Sadly lacked stamina and did not improve yet he was a decent odi bowler.Irfan
Did not improve but regressed in pace and when pace goes down ball swing early.He was never going to be good test prospect as a bowler.But he did well in t20 wc and he should have done better in odis.

Go easy on Patel as he was much older than he said he was (ask Shane Warne) and bending down at his age was probably difficult. 

 

Yusuf Pathan was an imposter - had one good IPL season and has mooched off that ever since. He really should be Saurabh Tiwary's twin - another one fluked good season wonder.

Irfaan for sure. We had many disappointments like munaf but irfan on song was something special. A proper test seam bowling all rounder is worth his weight in gold, but I think he should have stuck to bowling instead of trying to rebrand as an all rounder

 I felt with Munaf that because he came to cricket late in life , and he was never a natural athlete, he simply didn't have the body to sustain that pace that he showed in his first year of international cricket. He did well to forge a long enough career as a McGrath-lite . 

 

Irfan, was the bigger loss though, looked a potential world beater as a bowler when he first came through, then briefly the best odi all rounder in the world under Chappel. Sad case of what could have been. Would be interesting to know how and why he lost his bowling mojo.

His failures had nothing to do with with becoming an alrounder but injuries.

Irfan pathan I think as he was a potential all-rounder. Munaf, RP singh, Praveen Kumar also enter my mind at this stage. Now that irfan has retired he has hinted that he wasn’t happy with how MS Dhoni managed him. Irfan had a few more years in the tank in my opinion

IIRC irfan played county as well, but it didnt help him like it helped Zaheer and Ishant.

Sourav Ganguly was special but Rahul Dravid utilised me the best as captain: Irfan Pathan

 

In his international career, Pathan played under several captains for the Indian team including the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni. The former all-rounder praised Sourav Ganguly for managing the team well in the toughest of times but singled out Dravid as the captain who he felt utilised both his abilities with the bat and the ball the best.

"I have enjoyed playing under all the captains. Sourav Ganguly was outstanding, he was very special. Everyone appreciated his captaincy and no fan will disagree that he managed the team well even in the toughest of times. He gave Indian cricket a direction and now we are benefiting from that. no dhoni, chappell, dravid none were to be blamed apart from himself. Dhoni use to pick him but in that era he use to get injured a lot and if u wud have seen him bowl in domestic in that phase his pace dropped below 120k and then his fielding n batting became very poor. 

If he was good enough IPL sides wud have used him, even binny was sold till last year but irfan was given up on by ipl sides long back

Definitely Irfan .He won us the T20 WC.He would have been a great T20 player if not for injuries. I feel Dhoni misutilised him as 3rd or 4th pacer.He lost most of his bowling skills & confidence since then.

Munaf was scary when he debuted.Lost his way ever since he changed the action.
