Stradlater Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Have come to despise Holi celebrations and the hysteria associated with the festival. Also I absolutely detest Bollywood and everything it represents. What do you guys do that is quintessentially not Indian?

And the namaz on public spaces .I have heard of people doing it on airplane aisles on flights to middle east and no one dare stop it for fear of offending the holy ones who have no problem inconveniencing the others. Also the bhandaaras on road sides that cause traffic problems and result in people littering the road with disposable plates and glasses. coffee_rules Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 The mobile temples on the roads, they get some mata, hanuman or some such deity on the back of tempo or e-rickshaw, blasting Bollywood song tune based bhajans blasting on the roads, are a big nuisance. 2 years back when we visited the golden triangle, this was a very common scene, also a lot of children dressed a Ram, Durga, Hanuman and begging at traffic signals. Never seen such things happening in the south. We get eunuchs touching and asking for Chanda in the south.

We have a similar thing in the south, Bhim’s amaavasya, where the wife does puja and takes the husband’s blessing. We don’t do that in our household, even my mom never did.

True in most household, parents generation struggled more, they had less technology, child mortalities and income as well. In our class, everyone got out of poverty because of education. The entitlement comes from suffering.

We don't do it in uttarakhand although it is becoming popular now and there is a lot of pressure on new brides because of the constant tv serial influence on the mother in laws and others in the family....specially in delhi/ ncr. Also it is an excuse to dress up like a bride and kind of get an off day at home. No one in my family keeps except for one aunt who is punjabi. coffee_rules 1

We will 'suffer ' more compared to our children.It is a cycle of progress. If you choose to have children, the raising of these children is your duty and not a sacrifice to be payed back by children through complete obedience and taking over their life decisions. One of the 'elder' in my family had eight children,most of them educated and married off by his eldest son who lived his life like bonded slave because he was raised to believe it was his dharma to help raise his siblings (fathers children). This poor guy has a wife and two sons who hate him because he never had the time,love or money for them. The old man still gave sermons about sacrifice. KC used to be a minor festival before Bollywood and Ekta Kapoor turned it into a desi valentine's so much so that these days even some husbands keep the fast in order to showcase their eternal 'love' for their better half.
