MSK Prasad :Our committee always felt that Rayudu should be on the radar of Test selection after the 2016 Zimbabwe tour

“I felt seriously for Rayudu. I can clearly say that. It was very touch and go issue. Our committee always felt that he should be on the radar of Test selection after the 2016 Zimbabwe tour. And, I spoke to him as to why he was not focussing on Test cricket. If you remember, based on the IPL performances, we picked him for ODIs, which may not look appropriate to many,” said Prasad as quoted by Sportstar.

“Then, we focussed on his fitness for one month at the NCA, helped him there. He has delivered to an extent. Unfortunately, I am also hurt at what happened to him (apparently referring to the 2019 World Cup selection when Rayudu was ignored) having played with him. I feel bad for him,” he added.

I clearly remember that tour where Zimb trundler were squaring Rayudu against new ball badly, they didnt have the quality to sustain it so he got runs but if anyone finds the full match see how awful was his batting. If that tour made them think that he deserves to play test cricket then

Rayudu would have been a better pick than Vijay Shankar for sure.

No rayudu was a very poor player of pace bowling n nothing great of either seam n swing. Shankar looked far better in the games they played together. Rayudu also was a huge liability in field, we had a thread on him in which we counted around 50 runs that he lost in field in a span of few months. In Wc game against pak when bhuvi got injured shankar came in handy rayudu wont have. Shankar just had 2 bad games in Wc which anyone cud

Rayudu had his attitude and technical issues and he was older too but he showed occasional flashes of brilliance.

Vijay Shankar on the other hand is one of the most mediocre cricketers I have seen playing for India in the last 10-15 years. The only advantage was that Shankar could bowl but at his pace he was just asking to be hit. Good that the selectors realised their folly and dumped him.

The way Shankar was rushed into the squad was very questionable.. They should have waited for WC to get over to get him to play more ODIs.. instead they played him in the WC and dropped him now

Shankar technically was and is far better batsman then rayudu. Shankar never looked out of place while batting but rayudu did. Bowling was least of his strength.

He wasnt dumped he got injured and when he got fit those slots were taken .

He wasnt rushed he was at right place at right time.

He performed in domestic

Went on A tour to nz where he was our best batsman

Pandya got banned

He got a chances n did well

Came back home in aussie series did well

Rayudu lost form

Shankar booked his ticket.

He was dumped. Pandya is not fit, Dubey is not making the xi. That slot which he filled is still not claimed. In fact selectors are desperately looking for a lower order bat who can bowl but they don't think he can cut it. Not much performances in the NZ A side tour either.

No go n check he had a toe fracture in wc

When he came back dube was already in plans. Dube failed jst now.

The reason he is not in plan coz its t20 wc and he is not a t20 player and he cannot bat at 6,7 ...he is more of 4,5 batsman so slot is taken.

He has the 2nd best avg on current india a tour of 50 over games

Either our batsmen have to learn to bowl or bowlers learn to bat. Because of their non-interest in areas outsider their skill set , average players are still in the reckoning. Jadhav for his "bowling", Rayudu also bowled. Called out for chucking. Shankar, Pandya, Dubey all have more chances because of this.

Even jadeja is in the reckoning is because of his batting potential.

Watch those games no one was getting into as horrible position as was rayudu. KL n nair were batting at other end also seeing of new ball carefully but never looked in that much trouble.

Even in 2015 aussie tri series most of our batsman failed but rayudu stood out as he looked in no position to play.

Even if they start to bowl ull still need atleast one of jadeja or pandya who can be relied for 10 overs. Part timers can be relied for 10 overs and these guys wont be even part timer as they dont even bowl that much.

I hve mentioned before its not easy for part timers now as compare to 2000s when situation was diff. If these guys start to roll over without any variations they ll be destroyed. Jadhav n root had variation , even maxwell varies pace n uses crease.  Shaw, gill, mayank, KL none of them bowls. If guys like dube n shankar didnt work lets look at next set-  rana, abhishek , samad

If he was so much in love with him, why did not not pick him for the WC?

Probably because Kuptaan Wrogn and Drunkie didn't want him.
