Many of the episodes are gems) The Bridge (The Swedish one) The Game of Thrones (Fantasy, Swords, Locations, Dragons and of course Wolves) El Patron del Mal (Spanish; On Pablo Escobar) The Man in the High Castle (The last 2-3 episodes of a season are like blockbuster films) Dexter (The vigilante serial killer) Sherlock (A modern and entertaining interpretation of the world of Holmes and Watson) Edited March 31, 2020 by zen

I enjoy more a) the charms of Dr. Hannibal Lector (Mad Mikkelsen is brilliant in this psychological horror thriller) b) the portrayal of Hercule Poirot by David Suchet (and the timeless qualities of Agatha Christie’s stories) .... the obsession with balance! c) the unique alternate world of The Man in the High Castle (Esp. the concept of Germany-Japan prevailing in WW2 in an alternate world) d) the Scandinavian character of the Bridge (if I were to expand my list, it would have a few more Scandinavian/European crime/detective dramas including Sherlock. To me, the Bridge is a nice representation of this genre esp. the Scandinavian ones for characters like Saga Noren) e) the relatively detailed examination of the life and impact of Pablo Escobar in El Patron del Mel and so on! While your list has good entries, those are the type of shows I may avoid at the moment (which is why it is not a great idea to generalize on a favourite list. On the other hand, if discussing the greatest list, we can get into pros and cons to examine the merits of a show) PS if were to include animated series, the likes of Tom and Jerry, Tintin, The Simpsons, etc., could feature on the favourite list! Futurama was good as well. Family guy was very good the first few seasons and then went horrible real fast. For Anime, there needs to be entirely separate list for that. Haven't watched 'The Shield' and 'Narcos', the latter I want to start but not finding time. Among the great shows I am yet to watch many, when I do finish them my list will most definitely change.

zen Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 (edited) I prefer El Patron del Mal over Narcos, which appears to be inspired by the former .... though both are good in their own way .... I have moved away from gangsters/drug related dramas (Also bored of those Italian gangster stereotypes. Usually gathered around the dining table arguing and eating spaghetti) apart from those involving Escobar, who used drug money to try to be the President of Columbia and among certain sections was perceived as a Robinhood type of figure. How he takes on the Colombian and US govts, press, and other drug lords is mind blogging .... El Patron del Mal dives into these aspects including those who fought Escobar relatively comprehensively. zen Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 (edited) Many of the Scandinavian/European crime dramas would make my expanded favourites list including (from top of the mind recall) the Killing, Wallander, Spiral, Witnesses, The Chalet, Sherlock, Luther, etc. Watched so many that don’t even recall all the names. Some of the sequences may have got misplaced as well For e.g. there is a sequence where someone goes in to see a doctor/psychiatrist (to investigate something) but the killer (iirc) has assumed the identity of the doctor (or the doctor is the killer, can’t recall now). And then the person gets locked up by the doctor (not Dr. Hannibal Lector but a different character) .... can’t recall which show has this sequence (May have been an episode on Hannibal with Will investigating some doctor/institution) May need to get Hannibal complete season (1 to 3) on Blu-ray Edited March 8, 2020 by zen

The Little Drummer Girl for e.g. is pretty good but the Night Manager (starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie) is probably still ahead among the relatively new shows I try to avoid girly shows now including the ones like Friends. But “A Discovery of Witches” (mild horror-romance-thriller) could have potential for me. Will wait to watch S2 to decide if the series can make it to the list Edited March 8, 2020 by zen
