This is not rocket science. Diet is better, training is better. Players are more athletic and you can see the results on the field. Moving forward it gets better.

True, but that only explains how India caught up with the giants.  The surprise is that we have surpassed the giants.

I feel that our fast bowling revolution is due to atleast 20 different factors ... and Arun is one of those factors.

Arun deserves a lot of credit. Only credible coach in the Indian team management.

 

However we need to give credit to TA Sekhar and Dennis Lillee and the MRF foundation.

 

The most lethal attack India could have had was in early 2000s.  Peak Nehra and Zak, Srinath and then add Agarkar in the reserves that was one hell of a bowling line up. Too bad apart from 2003 WC (finals excluded) they didn’t play too many overseas tests together.

 

Also remember we had Sreeshanth, RP,Irfan,Munaf all emerging around the same time. In fact those guys have won and drawn series in SENA even though again we haven’t seen a combo of these bowlers firing at once together.

 

I would say we have great fitness standards and technology now and a larger pool of talented reserves which keeps these bowlers on their heels all the time.

 

I would give Arun the credit for managing them well but so far I am disappointed because apart from the current attack which is well seasoned, I don’t see any younger bowler developing yet. Khaleel lost his way, Siraj had too many nervous  breakdowns and Saini is real good but hasn’t really got the big opportunities yet.

(1) Format mismatch: Siraj was doing really well in domestic FC and India-A FC matches.  And what did the selectors do?  Debuted him in T20 where he got carted and lost his mojo.

(2) Selection timing:  Both Siraj and Saini toiled in domestics for more seasons than necessary.  They, especially Siraj, were given chances not when they were totally dominating, but a year or more later.

That has everything to do with the size of Indian economy. If you have top 5 economy in the world that is exactly what you will get.

What a full circle Indian fast bowling has come to. It is majorly due to the stats of Indian bowlers that the nos for this era look good.

The most important factor is change of mindset where they are given freedom to express themselves and the belief that they will have to win us games, that they are important for the team. They are not all the time bowling according to the captain. They have learnt to bowl their own way.  Biggest is work outside the cricket game like improveo in fitness, methodical practice with coach giving right direction and motivation.

Full strength Aus at or close to being its best ever....Cummins, Hazlewood, Pattinson, Starc

NZ at its strongest with amazing depth

Eng very strong though remains to be seen how they do without Anderson, still maybe only the 2004-05 and 2009-12 Eng teams had stronger bowling units in the last 35+ years

RSA again fantastic especially outside India

WI resurgent, saw how they did against Eng in 2018? Nature of pitches changing which plays to their strengths

BD at its best though nothing much to write home about

Lanka always had an alpha (Vaas, Malinga) and a mediocre supporting cast, now they don't have a world class quick but 3-4 guys with potential

Pak seems to be developing a strong pace unit with induction of so many young, exciting quicks, won't read too much into their past success because this gen can't get away with tampering
