Where is raina ?

Rohit and kohli also have been very good in the field. Kohli n raina job in 2011 wc was to stop runs at boundaries

Rohit and Kohli are safe fielders. Rohit is a better catcher and Kohli the better ground fielder but no way they will make it to the all time fielding list. Yes agree on Raina and Jadeja sr

Let me break it down

Fast bowlers: Umesh Yadav, Agarkar, Vinay Kumar :giggle: (good fielder)

Allrounders: Pandya,Robin Singh,Kapil and Jadeja

Batsman/ Close in and inner circle fielders : Yuvraj,Kaif,Solkar,Azhar,A.Jadeja,Raina,Pandey

Slip catching: Gavaskar,Dravid,Laxman and Sehwag

Keeper: Saha

Lets pick the best possible X1 with focus solely on fielding ability

kohli has had some great direct throw and they have both have taken brilliant catches as well , we cannot count how quickly kohli runs and makes double into singles.

Surely rohit flexibilty has declined but still very safe, in that way even yuvi fielding declined post his knee injury in 2006

The catch that changed international cricket forever. @zen you can pick holes in Kapil Dev’s career with whatever stat manipulation but once in a generation you get a player that changes cricket itself

Squad of 14 -pick your X1

Pandey

Jadeja

Pandya

Yuvraj

Azhar

Kaif

Robin Singh

Solkar

Umesh Yadav

Kapil Dev

Dravid

Laxman

Saha (WK)

Agarkar

Dhoni in his prime was a great keeper with razor sharp reflexes. Yet you choose to include a relatively lesser player like Saha.

Also, as many here have mentioned, Raina deserves a shout out.

From what I've heard even the Nawab of Pataudi was a great fielder. At least for the era he played in.

I think Kumble was a good fielder. If yes, then I'd replace Pandya with Kumble.

Sure Dhoni is a great keeper and you said it his strength is laser sharp reflexes and overall safe catching but he is not someone who will pull off acrobatic catches. There is a reason why there are memes and videos of Dhoni’s stumpings but you won’t find too many great catches by him.

Saha is the best when it comes to being safe and also acrobatic.

Raina I agree, I rectified that by mentioning him in the follow up post

Yes he was. The first great fielder in Indian cricket history and the best in the world for a considerable period of time, that too with one eye. His nickname was 'Tiger' because whenever he would chase balls he would invariably stop them before hitting the ropes, and he would patrol like the big cat....that is what Wadekar said. Used to field at covers, often instead of bending and stopping the ball he would flick it up with his foot and pouch with one hand. Royal blood, swag/arrogance, combined with footballing talent (also a brilliant hockey player). He used to play football in MACT (now NIT Bhopal) whenever he visited the city. His presence would draw huge crowds, my father was one among many such fans who would bunk classes to watch him in action.

But then Dhoni was called better than Saha. So that cancels out 1 point

+

Mention of Dhoni and Raina which reeks of :csk: bias  gets another -1

So I think you should give her a troll vote :)

Platinum: Solkar (God of close-in), Saha, Azhar

Gold: Jaddu (if only he could prove himself in slips and/or close-in like Azhar he'd be in top tier), Kaif, Pandey, Tiger Pataudi (once upon a time best in the world)

Silver: Pandya (has higher ceiling), Yuvraj, Raina, Robin, Kapil, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan (huge underachiever)

Bronze: Gavaskar, VVS, Dravid, Sehwag, Srikkanth, Ajay Jadeja, ...note some are strictly specialists...someone like VVS outside slip cordon was mediocre, Umesh and Agarkar as well since squad needs quicks

No Kohli cos of his catching, Rohit misses out, even Sachin who was a very safe catcher.

No Manish Pandey? He is better than Jadeja in the outfield with almost similar athletic ability.
