Tentative line ups, also note that forms of players in question varied, Dravid was standout in early-mid 2000s Ind team but not that good in the post-2006 period. Late 2000s Aus couldn't find a place since many of their top guns retired by then and Ponting lost his mojo. It was basically just Hussey+Clarke. Similarly mid 2000s Ind (Chappell era) misses out since our batsmen had injuries or were mostly out of form, mentally checked out etc. 1. Early 2000s Aus (till circa 2003): Hayden, Slater/Langer, Ponting, Martyn, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh/Lehmann, Gilchrist 2. Mid 2000s Aus (2004-2007): Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Martyn, Clarke, Katich/Hussey, Gilchrist 3. Early 2000s India (till circa 2004): Ramesh/Sehwag, SS Das/Deep Dasgupta/Chopra, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman, Ganguly, Dighe/Ratra/Parthiv 4. Late 2000s India (2007-10): Gambhir, Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman, Ganguly/Yuvraj, Dhoni 5. Late 2000s and early 2010s Eng (2009-12): Cook, Strauss, Trott, KP, Bell, Collingwood/Morgan, Prior 6. Late 2000s and early 2010s RSA (2007 -13): Smith, Peterson, Amla, Kallis, Villiers, Prince/Duminy/Faf, Boucher Pak, SL, NZ, WI have all fielded some good- excellent batting units post 2000 but doubt they can compare to these 6!!! Gollum Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) Pak had peak Moyo, Inzi, YK in the mid 2000s but not much on either side. SL had Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan, Samaraweera but not good enough outside SL, Pak. WI had Gayle, Hooper, Lara, Sarwan, Chanders but they didn't peak at the same time....also underachieved as a unit. NZ again not good enough in foreign conditions (Aus, Ind, RSA). I don't think any post-2015 batting lineup can be put in that category, Ind/Aus/NZ batsmen are monsters at home but need to do much better overseas. Graeme Smith's RSA had the last ATG batting unit, which helped them say unbeaten overseas for almost a decade. Edited August 21, 2020 by Gollum

Went 5-1 in SL, Ind in 2004 and with a bit more luck could well have been 7-0.

Smith's RSA had an equally good lineup, their fab 4 were Smith/Amla/Kallis/ABDV who outperformed our guys for a longer period. We had no business even drawing with the Aussies let alone beating them. What we achieved is nothing sort of a miracle and we should be damn proud of it. That we managed to win once and draw once and lost the 3rd series because of a rain washed out 5th day in Sennai was an achievement of gargangtuan proportions.
