What would be your ATG South Africa ODI XI ?

Recommended Posts

De Kock, Gibbs, Amla, Kallis, De Villiers, Rhodes, Klusener, S Pollock, Donald, Morkel, Tahir

Amla is a bit shoe horned in there, forcing both Kallis and AB one spot lower than they should... but feel like Amla can not be left out

No Cronje in a ATx1 as the captain OP?

OD X1

Smith

Gibbs

De Kock (keeper)

Kallis

Cronje (c)

AB

Kluesner

Pollock

Steyn

Donald

Tahir

12th man: Jonty Rohodes

Reserves: Kirsten (opener), Faf (middle

order) and Morkel (bowler),Boucher (keeper). I will be tempted to replace Steyn with Morkel depending on conditions

Wow that’s actually an unbeatable team unless it is a ICC knockout :giggle:

What will happen if your team plays Ankit's team in an ICC knockout final?  Kaun banega Choker Baba?

They all will choke but I have faith in a team that has both Cronje and Smith

Good point lol. ABDV, Amla and POllock were all terrible.

Have to get in Cronje or Faf and drop Amla

Had the same team as yours (different batting order) except one change, Morkel or FD Villiers in place of Steyn who IMO was a mediocre white ball bowler. But maybe as a Rohit fan you rate Steyn higher :phehe:

PS: Can't imagine RSA team without Cronje as skipper, underrated batsman as well who could be really explosive depending on match situation. Many people go purely by stats, that way Srikkanth will be a docile batsman compared to Rahane.

Justin Kemp seems to be underrated. He was the cleanest six hitter I've seen off fast bowling.

Yup i so wanted to fit in him but just went for jonty but kemp was very tempting option

Actually im changing, the more i think of it he is the kind of player i need at 6. Jonty can be called as subsitute

maybe the south african team in the apartheid years with Graeme pollock, Barry Richards, Mike Procter,  Clive Rice , Vintcent van der Bijl , Kepler Wessels,  would beat most of the above teams .. Note that Robin Smith & Allan Lamb played for Eng due to the isolation

Brett Schultz was one scary left armer although of 90s

Below based on players that I like watching:

QdK

Smith (c) - a good player of swing

Gibbs

Kallis/Amla (methodical batsman but 1 slot for someone who can hold one end up and the strokemakers can play around)

ABDV

Jonty - can't imagine a SA 11 w/o him. the electricity that he brings on field. best runner b/w the wickets so opponent could be under pressure with his running as well

Klusener

Pollock
Steyn

Tahir/Rabada (depending on if you want a spinner or a strike bowler)

Donald
