I am talking about just ODIs here.

I would love Saini to play tests too, but if Ishant returns he will have to sit out.

What is important is ... if any one among the top 3 quicks are not available, Saini must be the one who is chosen to play tests.

10 Odis is too small a sample size he is good enough to get way more games and be in the squad atleast.

I said atleast 10 ODIs.

He does reasonably well in these and he should get 10 to 15 more.

We have often seen youngsters being dropped after 2 or 3 LOIs. I don't want that.

Most importantly, youngsters should be told that they will get X number of games before they will be judged. They should be able to play freely without the fear of getting dropped.

That’s a good point but there should be a caveat to that. Some times a player is too raw and just not ready.

A seasoned veteran or someone who has already had a consistent run at First class level can be given those chances but what if someone is too raw?

I mean let’s say a young keeper or fast bowler- 2 of the toughest jobs in cricket has glaring flaws at international level? Don’t you think getting 10-15 games will totally shatter his confidence? Parthiv Patel is a big example.

This is were a proper system comes to place.

If miscommunication can happen between guys like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, just imagine a new player. Before dropping any player, the head coach should give the player a pathway for him to make a comeback and give him a list of things to work on. This is were both technical coaching and man management comes into play.

Unfortunately we don’t have on so inconsistencies in selection policies will continue to happen.

With the kind of system we have in place, at least in theory, players who are too raw should not get chances in Team India.

I am against picking a raw player just because he fits a type, like say a left arm pacer. Choose him only if he looks as good as the other pacers who are about to make debut.

This parameter should take care of the aspect we are discussing.

Let's take the case of Tyagi. I think he is the best fast bowling prospect in India now. But I don't want him to debut for Team India just yet, because he is too raw.

Let him play 10 FC matches and 15 to 20 List A matches ... train at the NCA so that he can sustain intensity and pace for 20 overs a day  ... be with Team India as a practice pacer ... play 5 India A matches.

And he may be ready in 18 months or so, unless he gets injured. Once Tyagi is deemed ready, he should be given 10 ODIs or 6 tests on the trot before he is judged.

In the after match show, when India was in the process of getting a good lead ...

Manju, " So when does Australia feel that the match is beyond them ? "

McGrath, " You don't think like that ever. You must always believe that there is a chance to win "

Manju, " Even Viv Richards told me that ".

Harsha with a mischievous smile at Manju, " I guess it is this mentality and thought process which separates the big players from those who did not make it big "

Nice trolling of Manju by Harsha. First time I enjoyed Harsha opening his mouth. :phehe:
