Samson is worth a shot for the remaining LOIs

When it comes to young players, they should be picked looking at their potential  and strengths/weaknesses. List A/FC records are useful if you have not seen a player in detail and are picking someone like how a computer would pick. Once you have observed a player in details, that information should play a more important role.

 

One batsman who ticks certain boxes is Samson. Considering how comfortable he is v both pace & spin relatively speaking, he should be drafted in the 11.

 

Samson (can keep too) + SDP can pack a punch in the 11

Maybe get Natarjan for Saini if Saini is not fully fit... But Kohli might end up going with Thakur

Where do you play him, that's a problem? Many people want KL Rahul to open the batting under Rohit's absence, there is Mayank and then Gill also in reckoning.

#3 is an interesting option .... An unwritten rule has been crafted that only Kohli should bat there in LOIs. As an experienced batsman, Kohli is expected to show flexibility and bat in the MO too (bats at #4 in tests)

There is no batting slot open in ODIs now.

 

If any slot opens up, my first choice would be Gill.

Moreover, Natarajan's ability is unknown in ODIs. His primary weapon is the yorker, which will work in the last few overs. But his bowling in the first 40 overs may not be that good

They expect Archer level bowling afterall

But you said right Saini is not someone who has been a mainstay in the team, shouldn't be dropped and picked intermittently,this has been a norm since joker took over

They dismantled the duo of Kuldeep Chahal for some reasons and reaped rewards (losses)since then

These are not WC matches,these are bilaterals,even if one considers Superleague we are hosts we should be looking for combinations and look after long term investments as much as possible,Natrajan too will get his due soon

Too much chopping and changing has cost us a WC just recently

IF i have to give samson a chance it ll be at 1-2 but mayank needs his run he has had 4 chances now from NZ series he shud be given 2 more

The best batsman picks his spot. Sachin did that for tests. Kohli is doing it in ODI and Tests

For ODIs, we should stick to Mayank, Iyer and Saini and give them the full series

Not too sure about that as Lara, Richards, Sobers, etc. have batted at various positions and also depending upon team's composition/requirements/roles/form
