When kohli scored 89 of 87, you expect others to score 300 of 213 balls, 300 in 35 overs. You play 87 balls, you have to be 130 chasing such a big total.

Why  Kohli alone should score all the time. Let others pick up the slack for once. yes he batted too slow while chasing that big total but he has history of catching up once he reaches 100 but he failed.

Thirdly & most importantly, both games India lost were because of bowling & the match was over in the first innings itself. Australia batted India out of both games. We can lament however much we want about intent & all in the two matches but chasing 375-390, a team loses 10 out of 10 times I think.

You right. Aussies outbatted us. Bowling was poor too but do you think we would have scored 375 batting first? We would have batted much more slowly batting first scoring 300 chased down easily by Aussies.

I am not so sure but definitely around 330 odd. Winning the toss & batting first was definitely an advantage.

Kohli is a limited player..  Nowadays he can't score runs quickly.  His limit is 100 -110 S/R.  In T20I that may vary according to the format.  Kohli of 2012-2016 was dynamic & that's when he played his big impact knocks.  Now with age & slow reflexes he's bound to fall short.  A batsman who doesn't play cut vs pace & slog sweep vs spin then your options are limited to score & zero innovation.  I can't blame him but he needs someone at the other end to attack so that he can control the game.  Don't expect him to win games single handedly

We scored 352 with Rohit batting too slow against Australia in world cup. They might not have scored 389 but 350 plus would be very much possible. Chasing 350 plus is not easy on any pitch.

Shaw, Kishan both can open. Has better hitting range than Gill. Even Gaikwad is there.

Gill will develop his range of strokes once he finds his footing in the team. Shaw has too many holes in his batting and Shaw is more a touch player than power player..Shaw like Sehwag is more likely to succeed more in tests where he will not have field restrictions.But is he as good player of spin is yet to be seen and he will fail once there is any movement or bounce. Kishen I don't think he is a class batsman, he might be WK batsman but not just batsman alone.

Wow sometimes I get baffled seeing these kind of posts ,a ATG who has scored so many runs in so many countries is going through a bad phase and we are going after his head I understand he might not be the greatest captain going around the world but he's just going through bad patch of form man everyone goes through these phases. If we had won series everyone would have said that it's a meaningless bilateral series on flat Australian roads this win wouldn't have mattered then but because we are loosing games in a series we are critical of everything. The other teams have lost against us many times in previous years dare I say we have hardly lost any bilateral odi series in almost three years but here we are bashing everyone in every possible way where the other team has out performed us because they were better on that day, it disgust me to see so many supporters that are there in our good days not in our bad days.

You can't win everything we are not invincible we are not australia of 200s that steam rolled everyone the sooner we accept that the better it will be and if we don't then we will be nothing better than those pakistani supporters and last but not the least no team in this current era is invincible England might look like one in limited overs cricket  but on a day they can decimate as

Scoring 89 runs run a ball is bad patch ??

Recently scored 450+ in IPL.....thats not bad patch

 

U knw what bad patch...watch KL 2 yrs ago when u cant time the ball, technique all over the shop, dont know wether to go on front or backfoot, dont know where ur off stump is

This is a bad phase for him where he isn't at his best. He is scoring but he isn't timing it the way he does .kohli was always a anchor for the ODI team but even if he didn't scored at quick pace at the start he always middled the ball even when he was taking the single but in last few matches there were so many false shots because the timing isn't there and it isn't there because he is infact going through a rough phase where he isn't scoring the way he used to but even in that he is scoring runs . Today the shot he got out he hit that pretty well but couldn't get the desired elevation that could have been a four any day, are we seriously comparing ourselves with england or australias batting !!....England's legspinner can't recall his name his name he once came in at number 9 got a partnership with buttler that taken there score from 270 to 400 ,in Australia there number 10 can bat where our tail starts from number 7 in the name of jadeja and we have to accept that we don't have that kind riches if we can't then I don't know what to say, send icfers in domestic cricket and tell them to be a power hitter ,in 2014 we have chased 360 in Jaipur in 42.3 overs and 350 in Nagpur just remember that we can compare so much as much we have resources .

True. But he has been a bit out of touch in ODIs for a while now.  IF he was in great form and had 89 (87) that would be criminal.  But he's finding his way out of a rut, so maybe some clemency is needed from fans.  For all of RGS' faults, he is missed now.  On these pitches, he'd be making merry going from 30 (40) to 200 (140).

Hard to use IPL in Emirates as a yardstick for ODIs in Australia.
