This is why you need an Extra bowling option in any format

People here have argued in past going for 6 batsman (knowing none of ours bowl) in test and in LOI with just  5 bowlers, when countered with the logic of injury to bowler in a match they say u cant go in a match expecting worst. Well yes u have to go in a math expecting every situation coz that what you call Plan-B

 

• Today we lost umesh 
• Last game we lost shami
• in Wc we lost bhuvi
• In Asia cup we lost pandya 
• In semi final pandya pulled a hamstring and had to finish his  overs somehow 
• Dont need to remind the famous Zak 2011 England test , where dhoni had to bowl 
• In this IPL Bhuvi got injured and SRH was looking for options
• In last england tour ashwin got injured

 

These are just top of my head there wud be few more. You cannot go in a match without that extra cushion to bowling

pakistan is saved By faheem even though with bat but they also have had this 5th bowler problem for some time now, he gives them a good balance

7. Jadeja / Hardik

 

Should become a must in every test match.

 

And this gives our team tremendous balance.

 

I hope our TM does not change this again.

 

With this combo, we will have the option of playing 

 

3 quicks + 2 spinners

4 specialist quicks + 1 spinner

2 quicks + 3 spinners

4 quicks including Hardik + 1 spinner 

 

Such flexibility based on the surface.

With so much cricket going on, there is high likelyhood of injury these days so all the more important.

You can't chose XI thinking of unlikely scenarios.

SL had 5 players injured in their current game.
