That speaks volume about the bias culture that exists in our setup from top to bottom. Yes Rohit is great when he gets going and he has some serious shot making capability, but all his accomplishments have come in ODI, he has nothing to show against serious oppositions in trying conditions in a 5 day game. He has done nothing in long format even at Ranji level and he gets the Test position in a platter inspite of Mayank and Panchal grinding for last 2-3 years. And the bias is not just here with fans, but from media to the senior cricketers , everybody acts as a cheerleader to this shameful injustice based on which state team or IPL team you belong to. Your ODI exploits gets you a position in Test team or T20 team even though those are different propositions  and deserved candidates who actually perform in that format misses out because some one else have a godfather or set of cheerleaders behind them. Atleast Bhogles and Manjrekars earn money from their exploits, so I can understand there sweet marketing talk.  Fans here dont and then they still act in the favour of this wrongdoing.

That was as a opener as well.  People forgot dude failed in his next two Tests against BD.  Then he strategically missed Two tests in NZ after playing T20Is.  Two back to back bad test series  he would have been dropped for Australia tour.  Lol at him being the Vice Captain

I feel so bad for this guy. He is probably in his peak years but never gets a chance. Anyone can see from far away that he is a better batsman than Shaw or Agarwal but somehow we find a reason to bench him. Hope he get to play all 4 test matches against England.

The thing is Rahul Rohit Mayank all three looks walking wicket. I would have been tempted to play Vihari as an opener as he leaves more balls than he plays. Infact none of Indian batsmen save Pujara and Vihari is good at leaving balls. They actually could have been Indias best opening pair in overseas tests taking shine off the ball then waiting for Kohli Rahane Gill Rahul Pant Jadeja Ashwin to play after wards. It also looks strong on paper

Honestly you will see Rohit push Vihari to open.

 

He knows very well he needs protection against the new ball and needs to bat at 6.

 

Opening and failing will basically kill off his test ambitions no matter how much influence you have.

Thing is you can't have 4-5 Pujara's in a batting lineup.  Pujara himself is going through a slump in form for last 2 years. 

Though I agree he should open as well since he is good at leaving the ball & dead batting everything. 

Now Rahul & Mayank are gifted stroke makers who have a problem with their defence.  Rohit is TTF & has a glaring weaknesses against moving ball..  He's both a LBW & Caught behind candidate.  

Tbh they should give Rohit both of these tests as an opener & if he fails..  He should be dumped out for good.   Mayank & Gill can pile on the runs at home.  Mayank is at least 5 years younger than Rohit so it's better to invest in him if Rohit fails in Australia yet again.

For some people it is always about players who are not playing, KL Rahul got more than enough chances in test cricket. He stunk for over two years in four different continents.But all of sudden he has become better player in test cricket. Has he gone back to FC cricket and scored tons of runs.He was taken to Australia just as Covid protection.

I don't think it will happen. Rohit was brought into test team as an opener. If plays in the middle order then coaching staff needs to fired.

Rohit IS NOT going to play in the middle order. He was tried tested and he failed in the middle. He was given a last shot at test cricket as opener and scored in India. He is not going to get chances in the middle order again.

To be fair give me one name who can withstand the thunderbolts of Cummins and Starc and score runs as a opener and you ll struggle.. Karunaratne maybe thats it.. kraig braithwaitte .. not sure of any

If Rohit fails in both these games..  He deserves to be dropped for good.  

Starc & Cummins are probably best in the world with the new ball in Australia but you have to find a way.  It's a pity that we don't have a left handed opener at the moment to make things little tougher for them (Dhawan's reflexes are done) so Rohit has to bite the bullet first up.  He has all the experience & if he can't deliver even 20-30 runs..  He is just not good enough.
