It is a matter of great pride for Gounders(EPS Community) that EPS was their first cm for the state from gounder community. OPS was already a two time CM (anointed by JJ, with her blessings)in 2002 and in 2014 when Jaya had to step down because of court judgements against her. That is a matter of great pride for Thevars and most of them (hell everyone including dmk and even the common public) assumed that OPS would become the CM once Jaya passed away and sasi had to go to Jail. But sadly for thevar community that didn't happen. After Jaya died there was a hell of a lot of chaos. Sasi would have come to power smoothly if not for the Supreme court case for which she got convicted. Somewhere after Jaya's death and sasi going to jail EPS somehow became the state's CM (with the blessings of BJP for sure) backstabbing both OPS and Sasi. However it has to be said that both EPS & OPS had one thing in common. They didn't like Sasi and wanted to remove her from the picture. But, OPS and Sasi are from the Thevar community. Both are strong in delta and in the southern regions. So with BJP playing a middleman or a court call it whatever you want to eps became cm and ops became deputy cm. That is a compromise and an unequal one at that in thevars POV. There's a strong resentment among thevars that a gounder (EPS) took away from them what was rightfully theirs. The thevars aren't a community to take such insults/backstabbings lightly. They think that eps used them and threw them away. BTW, There's a legendary video in youtube where EPS crawls on his feet towards SASI. . This was how he was an absolute nobody before sasi and now he is the cm. Court judgement to send Sasi to jail was influenced by BJP when OPS went to centre for help to recover his lost CM chair. BJP Shah then mediated the two factions and made the stronger faction (with more MLAs support) EPS the CM. EPS betrayed his mentor SK and all the mannargudi mafia to get the CM after he compromised with the OPS faction and the party stayed united after JJ.
