When will TM realize that Rohit is not a Test player? Why are they investing in a 34 year old TTF?

He is just being used as a stop gap now. He himself knows that ship has sailed for him.

I think if he was drafted and given proper backing in 2012 he could have made it but injuries at crucial points, then getting dropped due to too much competition etc he never got a continuous run.

I'm tempted to go that route but I think Rahul deserves another chance. Def not Rohit. His time is done and he hasn't learnt the art of batting in tests. its no point looking at him as he is unwilling to change his habits and its too late in his career to ask him to do so.

How many FC 100s has he scored? He was an opener where in league cricket??? He might be a batsman who can bowl and he might have opened in league , it does not make him a better opener than Rohit.I still think Sundar should be out of the team once Jadeja is back.

Sundar has a good idea about where his off stump is ... has a good footwork  ... and plays the ball under his eyes.  Plus he will give a right-left opening combo with Gill. 

 

Which is why I want him as an opener.

If Rohit flops, get Mayank in as opener  while Shaw works on his game. Don't make these bits and pieces players into openers. Scoring runs at number 7 position and opening are completely different at this level. Rohit himself knows he is stop gap opener.

Look at how Sundar is batting against top quality international bowlers in the toughest of situations now. That is the only thing that matters. 

 

Rohit averages just 27 away from home in all of 20 tests. Plus he has a poor off stump game. No point investing in such batters in test matches.

 

Even if the answer is not Sundar, Rohit should be replaced.

Again did 21 year old Rohit won a game for India in Australia?  The answer is no. Sundar again proved today it was no fluke.  3 back to back clutch inns under pressure which we have never witnessed with Rohit whether at top or middle order when our backs were against the wall.

Thakur won a game in Australia did more than Sundar in that test, do I want him to play in this series the answer is no. 3 back to back to back innings does not make Sundar better than Rohit.

This guy belittled Rahane in one thread, doing the same with Sundar in this thread. Wait for a couple of more test,s he will criticise Gill, Pujara, Pant and Siraj as well. What's common to them. They are all disliked by Kohli but played a major role in cricket history's biggest ever series win.

 

Thats the beauty of being a Kohli cheerleader. You remain fully aligned with the thought process of your master (or paymaster?)

A bits and pieces player does not play 3 consecutive crucial knocks under tremendous pressure against some of the best bowlers in the world in tough batting conditions.

 

Add to that how solid Sundar's batting is looking.

Thats a good point. But there is a difference between playing the second new ball as opposed to the first new ball when the bowlers are fresh. I'm with you on his technique and left right combo. His temperament is also noteworthy. He doesn't indulge in chitchat with the opp.fielders or bowler and remains cool under pressure.

We can groom Sundar as an opener for the near future and keep him in the middle order for now.

Thakur played a equally important role in winning that test so what, that makes him a must in every test. Rahane needs to earn his place as player first then we will discuss about him becoming captain.

 

Rohit is the opener for this series , if he flops Mayank is there .
