Best bet for them is bat against our tired bowlers again and give a huge 4th innings target and get us out on day 5. But after recent 4th innings chases, they'll be vary of setting a sporting target.. interesting decision choices ahead for root

The fairy tale scenario only happens if Eng make us follow on. Chasing 150+ in India isn't the same as badgering hapless Lankans in SL.

Number Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 In a high scoring game enforcing follow on is a bad idea. Asking bowlers to bowl 6-7 sessions continuously is not wise when the series has just started. More so in Indian heat and humidity.

But let's say that scenario happens by somehow. Scoring 450 wil take 110 overs - till 2nd session of day 5. Enough to bowl out England? When? In day 6?

Eng will be very nervous chasers. 1st - India can't risk for attacking when target will to survive the game. 2nd 150 lead by 1st session of day 5 requires batting at 4.5 rpo. When did Gill and Pant score that fast to have team run rate of 4.5? It's not an ODI game and even in ODIs scoring at 4.5 would be difficult on such track. If pitch plays that well to give overall run rate of 4.5, chasing 150 will be walk in park in 2 sessions on such track.

Now england will have a 225 run lead, English bowlers will be tired especially Jofra Archer, so Rohit and Gill will bang them if they try to enforce follow on. Most probably this will be the scenario : England gets 220 lead they will try to get that to 400 atleast especially after Gabba and also taking a hint from how defensive they have been. So this will take the whole 4th day, then we will get to chase 400.
