ash Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 One bad series, and the haters are coming up from the rocks. Yes maybe it is time to move forward with Washington, but this series just shows how important he was in the domination.. sensible-indian, Lord, saransh and 1 other 1 1 2

Yes countless times Ashwin saved india with bat let alone ball in this period of domination.
ash Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I think it is time to say Goodbye, with Washington showing promise. Hopefully he goes out on a high. Virat was pretty much useless in the last 4 years, Jadeja had an injury break, Rohit was on and off, Pant was gone for 2 years, Pujara and Rahane were dropped….yet we still won. Ashwin has one bad series, his worst after 2012 England series, and we lost. Just shows that From 2012-2024, he was pretty much THE main factor for the home domination. nevada, CG, The Hound and 1 other 2 2

He was the highest wicket taker in the series. Past 2 years he has regressed, but his average was never as bad as this series. This series was a shocker..
Gollum Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Too old, too weak, too slow. Could have retired on a high in Chennai test where he rescued the team. ash and Frustrated 2
R!TTER Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 He picked up a lot of cheap wickets, he also played all 5 tests - KY & Jadeja played 4, if you watched that series no way in hell you can claim he wasn't behind both KY & Jadeja!

After 2021 his game was always on the decline. Cheap or not, he was still valuable with some runs, wickets and keeping it tight. But in this series, his batting bombed, no wickets, and he leaked runs as well.
zen Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) My respect for pre 1990 spinners has gone up. Mankad was a hero in a test in England where a test has been named after him, Chandra won India a series in England and WI, …, …, … While these guys’ claim to fame is by and large rolling over teams on rank turners (a pitch where spinners have an unfair advantage) PS it is difficult to even recall a 5-er in tests in SENA! R!TTER Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Tbf, a lot of his issues are also down to our batting—for most A/R, if they don't do well in one department, they don't do that great in the other either! Not a rule per se, but just an observation. So while he did have some odd good games with the bat overall, his batting was also way down from 2016/17 levels. It also doesn't help that we're playing with 6/7 players each game—at least one pacer was wasted at Pune and here as well. Then RGS dropping easy catches or both his and BRat's batting had a domino effect. I was kind of afraid this could go south if the cap isn't doing well, but a whitewash was beyond any sane fans' expectations. I don't care if Ashwin plays or not because BRat/RGS need to go now! We'll lose the next 10 tests if one or both of them are still playing by the end of Eng series next series

If rank turner is the problem, why was India winning for the last 10 years ? Give credit where it is due, yes it was turners but our spinners were better and our batsmen were in form. Now our star spinners are aging, and batters are in transition..
Frustrated Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) Fat-win's fanboys are as annoying as that of Chokli-Vadapav duo. Fat-win sucked with the ball in the entire home test series vs Eng earlier this year. (Except one odd game). Repeated same kind of peformance in this series as well. Tailenders like Matt Henry and Southe hv outbowled and outbatted him. Even part timer phillips outbowled him. It's shameful. Yet Fat-win's fanboys are busy defending him. It's time for him to go. Along with other leeches like Chokli VadaPav & Fraudeja Edited November 3, 2024 by Frustrated

My point is not making Indian spinners “legend” based on performances on rank turners (any pitch that offers an unfair advantage to spinners), which I think are a disgrace to cricket. I have seen Raju run through sides as well. Then even Axar and Sundar out bowling Ashwin & Jadeja (and at times, even opposition spinners bowling to Indian batsmen who are used to playing on such pitches). These rank turner specialist spinners are bad posters boys of Indian cricket! And it is good to see them getting exposed again and again Edited November 3, 2024 by zen

And it is good to see them getting exposed again and again On a cloudy day in England, Bhuvi can run through a side as good as Anderson. It is about doing it consistently, and over long period of time that makes them legends. And Ashwin and Jadeja have earned this tag. Dont knock down your own players just cause you have a personal bias against spinners. Even in tank turners, spinners need to not leak runs, keep it tight and not get carried away.

Also they bat in these same conditions. Jadeja averages 40+ and Ashwin around 30. If pitches are so tough, these are Lara level bats

Buddy, have gone through such points before. Cloudy day is not doctoring a pitch. Nor those pitches are prepared by keeping them “unprepared”. As for Anderson or a Bhuvi, overall, he would be judged based on his performances in Aus, NZ, SA, etc. as well. Give most spinners an unfair advantage where the pitch creates enough doubt for a batsmen and they will do the job. Not surprising that these two have become experts on exploiting such pitches (and where most of the batsmen from other teams are not used to such conditions so an opportunity to pick easy wickets) while failing to match their potential elsewhere on a consistent basis. Every team does it buddy, it is called home advantage for a reason. And even in rank turners, not all spinners are same. If you think Raju or Joshi or Ajaz or Phillips are as talented as Ashwin or Jadeja, then can’t help you..
