Who is the best player of spin out of both India and England right now?

In my mind it has to be Root. He seems to have all the shorts to tackle spin including sweep/reverse sweep that Indians are reluctant to use. If the reports are right, preparing a rank turner could backfire big time. Its a 70s mindset of the Indian spin quartet existing. Indian batsman don't play spin that well nowadays. Resting on the reputation of legends before them.

On current form it's Root, if you're talking overall I'd argue Pant, Sundar are right up there if not better. We've seen Root bat first almost 7/8 times on really docile tracks in the last few tests in India. I will not rate him yet just based on that, when you bat second on a turning wicket & overcome that pressure - that's where your pedigree comes out.

Ro/ Ko ??? Rohit kohli ...no way . Rohit is good till ball comes straight 

 

 

• Mayank is way higher
• Gill is above them , he played Rashid khan better then many in world 
• Pandya, Pant above them

Yes Mayank is good.

Pandya well he can destroy spin but that’s not the only quality, can he survive and play out on dustbowls and have the defense, we will not know till he plays more.

 

Pant too plays only  one way against Spin.

 

Picked Ro and Ko because they can take the pitch out of equation. Remember how both used to smack Ajmal and other mystery spinners even when they were out of form.

kohli played ajmal well, if u watch that games highlight rohit was struggling till he got set and dew got heavy .

this is a very poor position to get in , he had similar dismissal to herath in lanka . Both times it was turning

It's based off of Cricviz data, but there is a major issue:

 

Cricviz lists Root's average vs spin as 65.84, but Cricinfo lists it as only 48.42. That is over a 17 run difference in average.

Pujara, Kohli, and Williamson also have major discrepancies between their listed CricViz vs Cricinfo averages vs spin. I am wondering which organization is more reliable.

Kohli 5 years back was a monster player of spin. He has regressed, his mind is basically not in the right place anymore. Root or Smith played spin better than him in last few years.

 

Overall between the two teams, I think Gill is the best player of spin. His special ability is that he can let the ball spin and still play it on will. That is some capability and not everybody's cup of tea. 

 

Mayank is pretty good as well with Pant not far behind.
