Can’t keep such a great talent out  ... If he played for Eng, he could win them the test. In Ind, he has to deal with the “system”

Why will England pick an avg test allrounder who can't even bowl now? No other country would include a 30 avg player as specialist batsman in test squad, he is lucky he is playing for India

out of which 80% are played overseas in eng and Sa of which if i take stats of batsman apart from Kohli it wont be much difference.

he averages 23 in England, 19 in SA. He scored 71 in India against Afg which makes his stats look decent, otherwise he is sub 30 averaging batsman.

He might have improved/evolved as a batsman in recent times, he can prove that in India vs India A matches in England later this year. But to take him as a specialist batsman when series is on the line is suicidal move

Sundar has played more clutch knocks in two tests than Pandya has played in 11 tests.

Pandya does not bowls now, whereas Sundar also gives few spells.

Pandya's fielding has also nose dived since his injury as he does not attempts diving catches nowadays and has started to drop high catches as well.

Once Jadeja is back, even Sundar may not get a chance inspite of having shown better performance and more potential than Pandya in test format. Pandya may end up playing maximum 30 tests for India given there are better options than him in test .

Having said that, seniority culture still exists in Indian cricket. 27 year old Pandya may get benefit of being an senior and leap over the  more performing 21 year old youngster.

Which means he is yet to prove himself at international level in tests, yet somehow you believe that he doesn't need to prove himself in FC based on his international performance!

Yea all someone needs to see is if he can bat or so. If those 2 tours are any judge pretty 90 % of the batting needs to go back to domestic . Also how does playing in domestic going to help u play in england and SA. He plays fast bowling better then iyer spin bowling better then rahane so what domestic will help. Thats all u need to see can he bat, domestic just helps in learning u to build innings- he already has a100 in sl so thats also not a problem. Made runs in SA on a tough pitch, made runs for India A on green pitch with pink ball. So what exactly will domestic do ? Yes a player shud play when he has time but there is no time with hardik for domestic. N domestic wnt help his batting much. His batting has evolved at international and will.

you have one example for each of those scenarios where he played a decent innings and you are convinced that he can repeat all of those again and again. Even Rahane played a good 67 on a tough turning pitch the other day, that doesn't mean he is suddenly good against spin. That is why people use averages.. they include both good and bad performances and tell us which is most likely to be repeated.. one off performances don't tell us anything

Who is saying to play him as an AR only, he is good enough to play as a specialist batsman (mentioned in the OP)... and if hypothetically playing for Eng, smash Ind bowlers

Again avgs 60* in test at home and in home like conditions (SL) with a 100 in SL ... Add his 90 in SA and so on ... an even more improved batsman now!

Pandya is good. But at end of the day, it is a team game. We want to see him bowl as well as he will be eyeing for that no. 6-7 spot. So, he should take his bowling a little more seriously. In ODIs, 4-5 overs of bowling on regular basis will do it but in test, we may need 10 overs of bowling from him in a day.

He scored those runs at #7, coming after the keeper when India was 5-296/5-432. Not comparable to a specialist batsman in top order, especially in the pink ball match where the ball can swing and english pacers may get early wickets. We have already seen Irfan Pathan who averaged 70+ at #7.. he couldn't repeat that in top order

yea becoz the scenarios he has played in most players were able to perform once or twice only. Also how many scenarios will u find in a 11 match long career?

I am a big fan of Pandya's ability but not his attitude. There are reports that after the LOI leg in Australia where he had a terrific series, team management asked him to stay back for test cricket. He declined the offer and wanted to go back home.

I would keep him in white ball cricket for now as he is not that hungry for test cricket.
