Democracy will end in India in future, it's inevitable.

Those who are so pro BJP here will also have to accept that the concept of India will disappear in the future because if corporations gain more power over the government, the concept of nation state will weaken and go extinct. Similar to how empires became obsolete post world wars and gave birth to the concept of nation states.

I share your concerns.

But I try to be positive. BJP has a very arrogant go it alone approach and they don't like building consensus. To rule a country like India you have to get everyone on the train and get along with everyone. Power has gone to BJPs head and they are just listening to few families.

But I think future is bright because average Indian is very intelligent and smart. If there are young people like Disha and Nodeep I think the country is in safe hands.

My biggest concern is the attack on free press. I have never seen supression like that. That needs to stop.

China has its narrative , US has its own, Russia has its own. Why can’t India have it’s own take on things? Why should we be neutral.

This line of thinking is what makes most Indians lack self esteem and have a low opinion of their culture and history.

« Facts are stupid things » -I think it was Nixon.

You have taken it way too seriously. You need to either contextualise or present some facts. This country has faced emergency with media and opposition locked. So, if you say this is worst you have seen, question is what have you seen and what do you know.

I am very proud of my Indian heritage and culture. Trust me there is plenty of self esteem here.

I am also very thankful for the excellent education I received in a good university which my parents were able to afford.

But I am also disturbed today by the the tone where anyone who opposes BJP is deshdrohi.

That is not the India for which my great grandfather went to jail.

Worst I have seen butt I understand emergency under Indira Gandhi was bad. But this supression is unprecedented.

There in lies the crux of the issue that believing that India is just a nation state born in 1947. For most of the people , the idea that binds India is a civilizational state based on a cultural identity. Read the constitution, a lot of ethos of it is not based on a western idea of a nation state, but out of civilizational concept of plurality. it is better to be open to such an idea of Indianness rather than western or colonial mindset of a nation state. That is the shift that India has taken since 2014.

Firstly genuinely thank him for his contribution. However I don’t get this left argument I see from likes of Kanhaiya Kumar- My brother was in army or that girl from JNU who said it wasn’t Pakistan but war that killed her dad or so and so was a freedom fighter.

Thats all good but just because a family member has done great service for the country doesn’t automatically give anyone a patriot certificate. Not target at you personally. Just a pet peeve of mine.

No issues being proud of your lineage but it is not a proof of anything.

Dumeels and libtard so-called progressives think that calling somebody a sanghi , bhakt in an argument is an insult. It shows their small-sized brains don’t have a clue that shows their pettiness and close-mindedness to religion and culture. Calling proud Hindus such names is an honor to them. You might as well give up on such insults.

There are other arguments here and not just comparisons to congress. He was the GCA president under whom the new stadium was built. It is not a change in name of the stadium , the sports complex is still named after SP. Most accepted it makes bad optics, but people saying this is as good as Congress, are talking with heads buried in sand. BJP has to do this for 60+ Years to be compared.

Agreed.

But the vision of India was that everyone gets along with some civility.

Now if you oppose BJP you are branded as deshdrohi and that is not healthy for the country.

Some of the BJP supporters are OK with attack on press and they forget that tomorrow it could be their turn in opposition.

If you honestly believe that we all share the same civilization and that is the common bond among us then why are people opposed to BJP being called deshdrohis? That rhetoric has to stop now.

That’s a platitude, know the difference between anti-BJP and anti-India.

It's called false equivalence and libtards are masters of it.

They will pick up one or two incidents to whitewash and justify past crimes.

So thus, for every Kashmir there is a Godhra ( incidentally today being the day that the train will burned down killing kar sevaks)
For 700 years of islamic conquest ( the estimates run to massacres of 70 million Dharmics ) there is a tipu sultan who was a freedom fighter
For everyone of the 60000 temples destroyed, there is babri masjid
For every one of the 2-3 million conversions, there are 40-50 gharwapsis
For every one of the 300 rss worker killed in wB and kerala, there is a pehlu khan

So don't bother trying to explain.Just leave it.

In eyes of BJP and their supporters it is synonymous.

Who are these others?

The very fact such a large sports complex has been built with private funds suggests this is anything but socialist. I would also argue that Bjp has always been better than Congress in terms of building physical infrastructure.

The sports complex which houses the stadium is Sardar Patel sports complex. As is the airport in the city.

The others as in people from other nations. Nobody names their stadiums after a current PM. This is entirely a third world thing. bjp should have went away from it to make the nehru gandhi naming philosophy a thing of the past. That is true progress. How many streets were named after Bhagat Singh, NSC Bose and other freedom fighters. Could have kept the same name as before. Is there a stadium named after Donald Trump. If BJP is so trivial in these matters, then its only fair that I can call them Congress 2.0

As you know in the US most sports arenas are named after corporates that maintain them.

Had this been named Reliance or Adani stadium there would be a lot more outrage. Had this been named after Bose etc people would have called it a Bengal election stunt or naming after Bhagat Singh would be looked at appeasing the Punjab farmers.

There is no win here. In fact the sad truth is there is no win with any thing in India. The problem is in USA or in most countries, 2 sides have an opposite view point but for the same goal and ideology. In India it is just about blindly opposing something just for the sake of it.

Modi stadium even though I am not a fan of naming them after current leaders, at least Congress is sitting like a cat that ate the canary, even though some idiots are still missing the hypocrisy of their protest.
