Well, it was a refurbished stadium. Sardar can get anew one! Maybe they can build a statue. Oh wait a min! They already built the world’s largest one for SP, Agree, bad optics, but not a big shocking one. But Reliance and Adani end is like sticking it to ‘em liberals.

I hate the Rajiv Gandhi airports and stadiums and I can’t be a hypocrite here.

Should have set an example.

However every frickin thing is named after the Gandhi family or Mahatma Gandhi so it looks like anyone outside the surname Gandhi/Nehru has 0 contribution to the nation.

Mixed about this. At least could have named the ends after cricketers Pujara/Jadeja/Irfan Pathan etc. Irfan Pathan end would have been a secular move :)

None of them played for Gujarat.  Rajkot stadium can honor Pujara and Jadeja, and Vadodara can do so for Irfan Pathan.  Ahendavad should name one stand for Parthiv and the other for Bumrah!

Really ! He is greatest political figure to come from Gujarat after Sardar. But this is serious misfiring. I am not sure what they were even thinking. In today’s India we need to remove the names of politicians especially Gandhis from every project.  This seems like major Par self goal. Cringeworthy.

Gandhiji?

I agree, not great optics .

But then I am enjoying the cringe of libtards.

Besides , he envisioned it and if the people of Gujarat love him and the GCA wants to do it,so be it.

This is also not a central govt initiative, but a pvt initiative undertaken by GCA.

If Gujarat wants to honor one of its greatest person's, what's the problem?

He is a living legend anyways.

I am ok with naming a few years after the death of the concerned person, not when he/she is alive. Australian Open named an arena after Margaret Court (she is still alive) and look at the embarrassment they are facing now. Every week she goes on some random hateful rant about non-Christians, LGBTQ, colored people etc. and all the public ire is directed towards AO organizers.

Recently McEnroe and Navratilova did their protest, wanted to rename it after Goolagong, an aboriginal superstar/champ of the 70s.

Navratilova and McEnroe say sorry but it's time Margaret Court did the same | Australian Open 2020 | The Guardian

Don't like this, Sardar Patel Stadium was just fine.

Why not Subhash Chandra Bose stadium? When is he going to get the respect he deserves.

Patel is finally getting it when will Bose get his due.

Anyway stadiums should be named after local sporting icons or May be the corporates who run and maintain them like All state arena, Wrigley Field etc. Politicians especially Indian politicians have never done anything for the sport in the country. It has always been sporting heroes be it Gopichand,Achrekar or admins like Dalmiya,Srini Mama or the players themselves like V.Anand and Bindra who charted their own path.

Just because it is Modi, I cannot change my opinion on this. Only good takeaway is it is not named after a family that has looted this country.

Or could have just called it Adani stadium or Reliance stadium. That’s fine as well, let the corporate who put his money and resources have the fame. Will encourage other corporate giants to build or sponsor infrastructure too.

Everybody is awake now. When Nehru, IG, Rajiv Gandhi names were used, they were all silent and thought it was the norm. Now,  for BJP there is a yardstick, moral compass and what not. Just accept that nothing changes politically BJP or INC. Taking credit is the hamam where sab nange hain. Just zip it and motor along. You guys ask questions when ABV gets Bharat Ratna and go along when Nehru or IG, or Rajiv Gandhi gets it, as if it is the norm. BJP ne kya morality ka theka rakha hain kya?

It will be a genius move if Modi steps in and says this is wrong and himself ask to rename it after someone more relevant to the stadium followed by passing a law which changes the names of all other institutions named after the fake Gandhi family.

Then I would admit this to be a master stroke. In fact it still might be unless I am over rating the logic here.
