Maybe the pink ball is the difference and not the pitch

Maybe its not the pitch but the pink ball. As Root mentioned, the pink ball has the extra lacquer that allows it to zip through the surface. it could also explain the 36 ao. The pink ball may accentuate any spin, seam advantages. If you recall, the last test was played under similar pitch conditions. The only change here is the pink ball. Discuss

Yeah. It somehow accentuates any bowling or batting advantage like a steroid to the pitch conditions. Like @express bowling mentioned, it needs a flatter pitch. I agree somewhat but I feel the flatter pitch maybe too friendly for batting like that 355 scored by Warner against the padosis in the pink match last season

Yeah my thing is that you advertise the Pink ball game as the game family can enjoy by coming home after work or by coming to the ground after work and still catch a session. The game barely last 2 sessions today. 

 

We can blame a player's technique as much as we want, this is different cricket from the late 90s, ball being used is different, test match is happening under lights and pitch is deteriorating by day 1 end, so no this can't be compared to 90s where greats did well. No comparison. The greats of late 90s and 2000s were great and hence are called great, but this result has nothing to do with how they would have done here, that we keep bringing and comparing current players to the past when the conditions and everything are different. 

 

People need to acknowledge and move on.

Combination of a lot of things, if you watch a lot of Leach or Axar wickets you'll see they also bowled some bowls with less spin. Scrambled seam & bowling it parallel to the stumps, basically they were trying to get the ball to turn less. A fair number of wickets fell on such deliveries, not the traditional slider.

Maybe the orange seats blinded the batsmen against the pink ball too.

 

j/k, Debugging the result, it seems like Rohit batted fine even on this pitch averaging 91. Kohli / Root/Stokes had starts.

So, it's all application. Playing for turn, and the ball goes straight is not pitch. It is the variation from the bowler pitching in a perfect line and length and speed. Eng was not equipped for this pitch. India MO ofcourse was trying to push the score today and fell through.
