what was he supposed to do.. leave space for fielder and run around the pitch?

He had a lot of time to move away, he blocked the ball until the non-striker went back and then looked down and faked a push acting like he stumbled. There are 3 or 4 angles, he’s totally culpable of obstructing the field

Sri Lankas have their sneaky ways of doing things. remember randiv and sehwag.

it was behind him and it was a natural reaction.. he tried his best not to touch the ball.. perhaps Pollard was expecting him to get away but when you are so close to crease you do try to back peddle to get back

In slow motion it would of course seem like he had a lot of time to move away. In real time you can clearly see his actions were natural.

He took a few steps forward to run but stopped when he thought it wasn’t possible. He didn’t change his path to obstruct the ball.

if a bowler going for the ball is in the path of the runner that’s acceptable, but why is a batsman going for the run or crease expected to make way for the fielder if he isn’t changing the path to obstruct?

Agree that slomo is not the clincher here, but in real time, he moved left to cover the ball and he knew where the ball was. I don’t have a problem with this decision even looking at real time

Pollard himself apologized to the player it seems for appealing
