Dissecting England’s attacking approach that won them the World Cup

Exactly no one is asking them to play as aggressively as Stokes and Bairstow did, but cant they at least match Sehwag-Sachin days, pathetic that these guys have taken our cricket backward rather than forward and the trophy cupboard reflects this accurately.

sehwag was an outlier in that era. apart from him and lala (afridi), no one had an SR > 100 and Sehwag in his peak 3-4 yrs was able to marry 40-ish avg with 100+ SR.

Top3 plays for personal milestones, why would they play every bilaterals then?

It may sound bad but this is truth,Rohit can play outstanding shots later but to reach there he usually wastes too.many deliveries ,a captain may have a temptation for a guy like Rohit but i highly doubt he would play Kohli,Dhawan alongside him and KL would have been asked to play freely without playing for his place (but there is some in security creeped in where he too wants to secure his place by playing for stats)this is worrisome,KL going the top 3 way is a warning to this TM,

guys like Pant,Gill,Kishan too may follow this trend of subjugated performance to pad their stats to stay relevant

The point is India don't need to radically change personnel. We have all the ingredients. It's just the change in mindset that the fans want. No one gives a damn about an average of 60 when you're unable to attack and put pressure on an average off spinner who bowls 10 consecutive overs for 40 odd. The game has evolved. Players are rated on their impact. We can't make 40 odd every time in the first 10 overs and expect lower middle order to make 100 off in the last 10 overs everytime. Yesterday we could have scored 370 easily if we were more positive in the middle overs. That could have won us the match.

Arm chair quarterbacks, Kohli bhakts, pawar hitter fans, small d pandya fans all have no idea what they are talking about.

We need more pants and sky's.

Sky Ishan need to be apart of the team.

Enough of rubbish spinners like KD. He sucks.

We need to integrate more Pacers into the side.

Guys like Thakur add balance. Washy would have been a much better option than KD.

Washy tewatia who din't pass a fitness test. These are the kind of players we need.

Balance is key. And top 3 can't have too many similar players.

Some guys need to go and they know who they are. Will it happen under lolli? Probably not. So just watch the game and don't take it to personally.

Let's atleast win the test chamionship first. I think we can win that.

T20 we should be able to win.

Odi I don't know. Our selections will decide our fate in odi.

I mean the pitch was Absolute flat pan cake.  But the mindset seems to be to reach 300 somehow & anything over is bonus which is stupidity in India where outfields alone are ultra fast..  And Chasing is pretty easy these days.  380 was bare minimum here.

If India had 360-370 in that game, on that wicket, with that bowling attack - I think they had a very good chance to win.  Even with 330, England had that little wobble, but by that time at 4 down, they needed 50 runs from 80 balls.  Make than run-a-ball, and India could have come roaring back with another wicket or 2.

But Indian top order did not give the bowlers a fair chance on that wicket.

Since 2015, England has chased 300+ successfully 10 times, with 5 of them being over 337. In the same period,  9 times they lost chasing big scores(over 300), 6 times the total was > 340 and 5 out of that was when target was over 365.

So safe score against them seems to be 360+

Yep, England only had 2 300+ chases before 2015. Those were in 2000 and 2007. https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_fielding_first=2;class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=start;result=1;runsmin1=300;runsval1=runs;team=1;template=results;type=team;view=innings

And we still have people arguing that their change of strategy is not useful, despite having such clear ,startling results that the strategies do work

Assess the pitch, Assess the attack.  In this case Pitch was a belter. English bowling was horrible. So allowing spinners to get away with 20 overs with limited damage was a crime. You cannot go in with the same mindset of playing 40 overs cautiously and going after bowling in the last 10. Pant/Pandya both are high risk takers. We could lose them in 2 balls in the process of accelerating. Taking calculated risk is important.
