You definitely need a no 8 ,if not a 9 .If the opposition bowlers can bat and ours can't then they will have to outbowl them, can't afford to just match them and think it is enough .

My theory is if India is getting blown away in batting...  That a mythical Flintoff or Klusner won't be able to save them.  Guys like Shardul Chahar won't be able to save a 150-160 total.  However guys like Prasidh Umran along with Bumrah will be potentially able to defend even 140 or stand a chance.

Leave bits n pieces player.  Bring in specialists to do the job.

That's what I said you need high quality bowlers at 8 and 9 not bits and pieces ,but they need to bat .Say someone like chameera who is a good no 9,and no 8 someone like Cummins or Rashid .

Chahar should bowl 3 with the new ball if he plays and 1 should be covered by Jaddu/Pandya. If he plays that is.

i am not sold on Harshal’s batting ability.

thakur is a better bat than Harshal but the weakest in terms of t20 bowling among the 3.

Unfortunately we don't have those.  Let's hope Hangargekar becomes one but he's in a sh*** franchise like CSK.

Shardul Chahar are not the answers in Australia.  They are too expensive even for high scoring games & can bowl match losing spells.

Ideally we have to find a gun spinner like Rashid who can slog.  Dudeja is worse than even Tailenders like Umesh when it comes to slogging.

I know this is pace and speed thread so that supersedes everything but we have enough bowling resources to pick based on team strengths.

for example teams like SL and Bangladesh and other weaker teams will smash swing bowlers and spinners so best bet is to go with pace up front.

Teams like Aus and Eng their hacks are not that good vs spin and swing so opening with a sundar type bowler or a Chahar up front can be helpful.

vs Pak too i think a guy like Babar is a timer of the ball so he needs pace upfront so best bet is a swing bowler.

We need to pick an attack on multiple things. There are so many moving parts now. We also have a lot of baggage fielders and one dimensional cricketers so all that has to be unfortunately accounted for.

Mohsin 144

Needs to build on his stamina. Has a lot of things going for him. Left armer, has pace, can swing and seems like can bat at 8-9-10 for a couple of slogs. Growing on me

Watched the match replay of KKR vs DC

Harshit Rana  was impressive.

Tall lad and hits the deck hard.  Decent line and length. Bowled quite a few bslls at 140 k to 144 k

Did not spray the ball and bowled with effort.

He is just 20 and as he would learn the nuances of bowling as he plays more. And he will learn to sustain pace too.

KKR games will be in my radar again for Harshit.

Need to bowl fuller lengths like Starc.

Guys like Umesh and Shami also started off as guys with only one dimensional pace but as they added skills without compromising on fitness and pace they got better and better. To some extent Ishant as well even though he messed it up for a few years in the middle.

We have had a good structure at least with Bharat Arun etc where they worked on bowlers skills without affecting their pace.

Lot of resources now. How they evolve in their skills need to be seen. By skills I don’t mean just knuckle/ slower balls or Yorkers but their swing, seam position, bowling acumen etc. that’s where a lot of our bowlers used to lose it in the past even when they had pace.

Umran stands out due to the extra yards.

Rest all need some 2nd line or defense to complement their pace.

that’s my take.

The great thing is all these young stand out pacers dayal, Sen, umran, prasidh,Mukesh, tyagi, hangaregekar all have solid skill set, Mukesh gets it to move in late against the right handers, dayal gets bounce and proper wicket taker, prasidh is nearly a complete bowler, his stock ball is high value, tyagi can do a bit of everything, bounce, pace, movement, harshit to was hitting the pitch hard.

add Moshin and Khaleel too. Very impressed with them. Pace and swing.

Mohsin has to work a lot on his fitness though.

i can see Avesh improving there.

Also let’s not give up on Arshdeep. He is young, left armer, great temperament. Lacks the extra yards but something to work with as well.

We needed pace upfront against Pak last year, bhuvi's first over was so gentle, both Rizwan and Babar were under no pressure, carried on creaming the attack without any fuss, chahar can be dangerous in sc conditions under lights in Australia he will be deposited.

Mohsin

Sen

Tyagi would rape pakistan with bounce and pace.

Not even going to bring in the main pacers.

But yeah bhuvi and shitty swing trundlers should have never played for us vs Pakistanies.

Absolutely  !

Umran .... super extra pace

Prasidh .... extra bounce at sharp pace

Bumrah .... extra everything

Shami ... extra good seam position at sharp pace

Siraj .... extra energy at sharp pace

This could be our test bowling pool in 2022.

Probably add Umesh for Tests in the mix as he has got some control first time in his career and may be avesh and khaleel as well in white ball.

Among the bowling all rounders Hardik, shardul and Deepak chahar- All the three have some genuine batting capability as well now.

batting AR- venky iyer. He has sorted his line n length and is a GUN BATSMAN.

SPIN AR- Washington and Jaddu  for odi and t20 and ashwin in tests. even krunnal pandya can be considered in ODI and T20. we cannot underestimate a PANDYA.  Hardik is the most talented cricketer in India - that's a truth which every one of us has to agree and similarly Krunnal has also loads of talent. whether he bowls spin or slow medium pace is still a mystery as he bowls at 101K.

washie has the capability to open any format in batting as well as bowling- some serious talent.

SPIN Bowlers- Bishnoi is my no 1 choice and Kuldeep is my no 2. chahal is no 3 in my list for ODI/T20 and Bishnoi/kuldeep/ashwin for tests.

God fobid any injury Umran has literally smashed the doors right now.  He is certain be picked for SA T20Is..  And at this rate sure shot name in playing XI.

I'll pick him for all 5 T20Is & LOI leg of England.

I don't think he will be picked in playing XI for one off test.

ODIs & T20Is first please.   Give him a taste of Int'l cricket

i was wondering if umran is ready now for international cricket. but seems he is truly gifted.

he runs fully fast. i saw him bowling one slow ball among 24 balls. he is not one who tries slow balls too much.

trying one ball among 6 is acceptable but if one tries 3 balls out of 6 , it is not a surprise at all and batsman target to hit it well.

Point i want to make is umran is READY NOW, i hope our selectors play him into india 15 and also india 11 straight away.

Avesh was trundling today and got hit too in his 1st spell.

I never trust this bowler.

He has both fitness issues as well as lack of effort on occasions.

yes brother i agree avesh has undererformed.

but his physique is deadly, he is very strong ( i am not saying he is very fit, he has to improve). Being strong , he can intimidate , increase his space to 145k+ if he tries hard.

he gets fast bounce exactly like Prasidh.

i agree he does not deserve to be in INDIA 15 immediately but he is one of the MOST TALENTED fast bowler that India has.

See his bowling action and his physique ( even better physique than Prasidh). he is probably 6 3".
