There is an optimum pace at which a bowler will have his rythym , landing balance & syncronisation  of  hand and body movement  intact and he will still bowl with control. But when he tries too hard with intention of bowling real quick the synchronisation will not be maintained and control is lost.

For me it looks like right now , around 142-147  is the optimum pace  at which Umarn maintains decent control.  He should practice hard at this pace for some months and achieve good control and develop a nasty bumper . From then on he can start trying few  times to bowl few real quick ones which also can surprise batters.

One cannot bowl every ball 150+ ball after ball.

His best has been 145-152.then no bowler will bowl same way same pace every game. They are humans, not machines. Not every day body responds the same way.

Umran has bowled very well. in his first over he was a bit too excited.

But he is doing well. he bowled a 154.8 k full toss to rohit and rohit missed it, it was so fast.

umran has managed 3 wickets already. he gave very few runs in his second over.

he is fighting hard for the purple cap.

It's very often seen that when a pacer loses rhythm then he loses both control and pace.

In case of Umran, some of his most accurate spells have been at 143 k to 153 k.

He loses rhythm when he goes for short balls 4 or 5 times an over ... and when he attacks the stumps at high pace,  with a few short balls in between, then he maintains rhythm and both high pace and accuracy.

Looks like he has cut down on speeds to get control under the Indian critics pressure. I don't like it, though he is getting wkts but it's not good for long run.

He hasnt cut down on pace

even an accurate Nattu at slow pace is easy for batsman to hit.

Medium pacers, especially if they are shorter, have a very small margin for error.

Even if they are slightly off in terms of accuracy, they may get clobbered.

Which is why playing too many medium pacers is always risky.
