  1. 1. Do you agree with viewpoint of Uttarakhand CM

    • Agree - Faith cannot be ignored and we need events like Kumbh mela at limited level

    • Disagree - Health should be the ultimate priority. Faith practice in public places can wait temporarily.

What do everyone think about the debate between faith and health...

Can we ignore health for the sake of faith and have millions of people gather for Kumbh mela. This is quite serious and should be investigated further.

Quote

Citing other differences between the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar and Nizamuddin Markaz, Tirath Singh Rawat said, "The devotees attending Kumbh are not from outside but our own people."

"Moreover, when the Markaz was held there was not much awareness about coronavirus nor were there any guidelines. No one knew for how long the attendees of the Markaz had remained in the confines of the structure," he said.

"Now there is more awareness both about Covid-19 and the guidelines related to it," the chief minister added.

He also said Kumbh comes once in 12 years and is linked with the faith and sentiments of millions of people.

"Holding it successfully amid the challenge posed by Covid-19 by ensuring that the SOP is strictly followed by all is our goal," he said.

While it is true that Markaz had lot of foreign attendees and Kumbh probably does not, right now corona is so well spread that it is already well spread in our own people. We don't need to import anything from outside. We have everything we are afraid of already with us.

If there is more awareness about covid-19 than last year, then it is a bigger mistake to do this kind of gathering now than earlier when there is not much awareness.

Respecting faith and sentiments of millions of people is fine but at the cost of millions of people getting affected by a diseases where lakhs of people will die unnecessarily.

35lakh people attending kumbh, assuming 5lakh get infected and give our current mortality rate 8.5k could potentially die. I am not even getting into further exponential spread.

What?

If it is a priority then one shouldn't make excuses about it.

Its very typical of the 'but brigade' if I were to quote Rushdie.

... cant ignore the faith totally.

It could be used as an argument if faith also doesn't ignore us and guarantees us that no one is going to get infected

I am not sure if hosting of Kumbh Mela (once every 12 years) during the pandemic is purely related to faith or to not miss out on tourist $$$ as the event happens every few years
