Shakshuka is da bomb!  Twice a month Saturday brunch for me.

First time you feel home sick is when you have breakfast abroad. It pales in comparison to what we have. We can have different breakfasts for 6 months straight. India does pamper you if you have access.

Agree, I eat all eggs, scrambled,  omelette, etc, need a day of pure Indian breakfast. Cherish the time I spent in India with different breakfast items.

Madurai is so underrated I feel. Food and culture.

we call idiappam as santhavai and our style of  idiappam will be slightly bigger in size ..

coconut milk or panchamirtham ( jaggery + ripe banana mix  ) is the default accompaniment for our idiappam .. both are sweet though ..   :yum:

in many places they take it with non-veg gravy ( chettinadu or chennai style ) ..

And not just non veg lite. It goes right up to the B word. My Brahminical patriarchal brain couldn’t digest this combo. But I can see that it was tasty.

I only use 3 spices in my cooking - chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder. And of course, salt.

Missus is Jain. So, onions are out. Ginger and garlic, rarely used.

And she's Gujarati. Gujarati food is so sweet in comparison, it's like eating ice cream.

They love their "chaas". We call it buttermilk. Or majiga. Drink a glass of majiga every night before going to sleep. :rose:

She took me to Samrat. The one in Marine Drive. Couldn't take two bites out of any dish, they were too sweet.

Finished off the chaas like champion. The waiter got sick of serving me, left the jug at the table and told me to help myself.

Im gujarati and everything you said about our food is right lol
