The fab four all-rounder of this era

Recommended Posts

In 80s, the golden all-rounder quartet were considered legends of the game- Imran, Kapil, Botham and Hadlee. But currently, we have another quarter of all-rounders- Jadeja, Stokes, Shakib and Holder.

Who do you think is the most standout among the four All-rounders mentioned in current era?

From those who actually bat and Bowl in all formats..

Stokes

Shakib

Jadeja

Chris Woakes

Shakib had to face a ban, but he is back in action.

Holder is a developing all rounder, not in the league of Stokes, Shakib, Woakes and Jadeja who have long established as all format performing all rounders.

Is Holder really not in league of Woakes or is it Woakes who is not in league of Holder and other three?

Did you mix up Holder and Woakes?

What's Shakib's bowling average in SENA?  Actually BD rarely gets to play there.  I know he has a double ton in NZ though.

My Fab 4

Stokes

Jadeja

Holder (has a match winning 5for in UAE to boot)

Woakes/Shakib

I don't see cricket having a fav 4 in all round department right now. At least no one talks about it.

Shakib - Definitely no.1 with his overall record.

Jadeja - Bowling All rounder  # Has not got as much chance to bat for being in top heavy Indian team. Has same average as stokes with the bat but not the runs.

Stokes - Batting All rounder # He gets chances with bat and ball. Needs to improve Bowling record.  His strike rate surprisingly is lower than Shakib and Jadeja in Tests

Woakes and Holder are good as well but not the same level as the other 3. Holder will likely retire with better record than Woakes.

Moeen Ali - Not sure why no one considers him an all rounder. He is good with the bat and ball. 5 hundreds and closing on 200 test wickets.

Ravi Ashwin- His batting has fallen off the radar but he has shown ability with the bat and performed from time to time.

Pandya is insignificant until he has some kind of test record under his belt. Too early to include him in any list. If he cant bowl even in LOI then his test chances will be limited. He definitely is an attractive batter.

If I have to name top 4 - Shakib, Jadeja, Stokes, Moeen Ali

Its lower than Warne too.Legend

Pandya batting not good enough in tests

Bowling not good enough full stop

Ashwin batting not good enough in tests, he's in same category as Woakes

Ashwin is very capable bat and about equal to Jadeja

Jadeja's batting arguably merits selection into the test team on its own. Ashwin's doesn't.

Ashwin has 5 Test tons with 2 overseas.Jaddu has just one home ton v Windies

It's not only about averages

Ashwin's batting had declined but since Aus tour he's been batting well

Ok so does Ashwin merit selection in current Indian test side as a batsmen alone? Jadeja does.

Jadeja is better bat than Ashwin & that's why he bats above him when both play.  Jaddu has played some good test inns overseas like one in England last time & then vs Aus at MCG recently.  He batted decently in Aus in 2018 as well.

Ashwin let us down heavily in batting in England & Aus in 2018 & also in South Africa.

He himself has admitted his batting was not up to the mark in that period after his recent Chennai ton.  Hopefully he has turned a corner now after his success in Aus where he did well with both bat n ball.

He can be very useful lower down the order in England
