I would argue no. I'm not too disappointed with this loss. How can you be when you answer this question honestly.

 

Boult, Southee, Jamieson, Wagner is one hell of a pace attack.

Mostly no. Southee, Wagner & Jamieson (also an AR) offer variety and are shoo ins ... Boult can be form/rhythm dependent so may consider someone like Siraj or a Shami

The *conditions* is a key word. They were cannon fodder in Australia an year iirc. NZ conditions easily mirror English conditions. They had all the aces for the conditions.

Certainly not our new ball opener Ishant. There's your problem. He is competing with Wagner, their 4th pacer in terms of utility to his side, and would probably lose that battle

Siraj probably. The current Bumrah no. Ishant is past it. 

 

Shami is decent but NZ pace attack is better.

Lol Ishant has been avg 21 and one of best in world since last 3 years.You dont follow cricket it seems.

To me Wagner is among the top picks as he bowls at a different angle, can bowl with pace, a master of short bowling, etc. ... but importantly, he has the never say die attitude

NZ and England conditions are similar so they are best in These conditions.But Last 4 years Indian has been best attack world over.

Key is where you are playing - if in England/NZ then you have an argument.

 

Switch to Australia, SA, Asia or West Indies and you don't.

Not an excuse, but certainly a qualifier. 

 

I firmly believe that the Indian test team is the least flawed in cricket - across conditions.  And this team was capable of beating this NZ team, in these conditions, in spite of losing the toss.   But they didn't.  They didn't play well, and they lost instead of winning.  

 

This doesn't suddenly make them not good enough.  Its one game.  They were off-color - on their very first match on a tour in challenging conditions.  Its not that surprising really.

Now india will Prepare raging turners in oct and gave jadeja ashwin axar bowling to hapless left handers conway latham and co. Then somebody will say will any nz bowlers find a place in ind line up. Answer is no. In home conditions everyone is the king. These Southampton conditions were not far from what is in christchurch..

i agree. i'm not denigrating India at all. just fans that feel entitled to a win, when the evidence on show suggests NZ did and should beat India in these conditions.

India is winning this 5 match series unless serious injuries take out 2 or more bowlers.

yeh agree with a lot of that. i'm speaking specifically about the match ups between the two pace attacks in these conditions. do you think a combined XI would feature a single pacer from India?
