Top order: Pujara, Rohit, Gill, Agarwal, KL

Middle order: Kohli, Rahane, Pant, Vihari, Saha

Pace Bowlers: Siraj, Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, Yadav, Thakur

Spinners: Sundar (will be considered for his bowling too), Ashwin, Jadeja & Axar

If conditions are going to be pace friendly, too many spinners in the squad. I would not mind starting with the 11 below:

Rohit

Gill

Agarwal/KL

Pujara

Kohli

Pant

Vihari/Sundar

Thakur

Siraj

Shami

Bumrah - need to get him in rhythm by playing these games

Because of the loss in WTC, TM may try to create pressure on players to win this series, which may backfire if the players don’t feel relaxed and play their natural game :hmmm:

The beauty of test cricket is that it allows players to play to their strengths, making it a tough format

Do you honestly believe Mayank and Rahul is the answer ?

Mayank better in middle order I agree. Rahul Is not fit for opening.

We need to stick in panchal or something along with rohit.

I like pandya at 7 if he can BOWL.

Otherwise ash at 7. Thakur at 8. Agree with rest.

Squad is already announced. Other options are Rahane and Vihari

No and maybe? Vihari as a opener? Not too bad.

I would continue to open with Rohit & Gill. I have Agarwal/KL at 3 as they are openers in place of Rahane. Others move down a number. While at #7, I have a batsman who could bowl like Vihari or the new boy Sundar, who can do that too. 4 pacers assuming pace friendly conditions. If the conditions has a case of a specialist spinner, he can come in place of one of pacers

why push pujara and kohli down the order. this is where they need to step up as most experienced batsmen in the team.

I would send Pujara to open with Rohit, as an opener his blocking can be more helpful to see off Branderson's opening spells. Plus even if he plays a good innings, he'll run out of partners in no time if he plays at 4. just 3 more wickets at the other end and innings is over. As an opener he can make a hundred on a good day

That can be an option too

Have a feeling they will drop Pujara either in 1st test or 2nd test.

Gill may be pushed at no 3 with Mayank being given opener role with Rohit.

Rahul may be slotted as well in lower down the order instead of Jaddu..  Who doesn't has the ability to bat with Tail.  Rahul in full flow can change the course of the game with his unreal stroke making ability.

Siraj will start the series too I think.

1. Siraj in place of Ishant who is not looking that fit.

2. Shardul in place of Jadeja or Ashwin

3. Rahane at 3

4. Sundar replaces Pujara and comes at 5.

... This ensures that we have 2 swing bowlers in Siraj and Shardul and 4 pacers overall.

... Middle order gets a boost in the form of in-form Sundar.

1. Gill

2. Rohit

3. Rahane

4. Kohli

5. Sundar

6. Pant

7. Ashwin / Jadeja

8. Shardul

9. Shami

10. Siraj

11. Bumrah

no.7 is an issue .I know Jadeja failed but not really comfortable with Ash at 7 with our 9,10,11

Maybe Sundar can do Ashwin's role with the ball like he did at Gabba :hmmm:

I am a tad uncomfortable with Ash at 7 too.

If you check my team. I already have Sundar at 5.

Jaddu can play at 7 and that will be perfect.

But will this sissy captain drop Ashwin ?

  1. With Gill out, Mayank should come in.
  2. Pujara and  Rahane shouldn't play all 5 tests, Vihari & Rahul waiting in the wings.
  3. We need proven clutch players in Sundar and Shardul.
  4. Ashwin and Jadeja both can't play in same team unless its a turner.
  5. Siraj, Shami, Bumrah are first choice with Ishant chipping in for couple of tests.

Don't forget there are WTC points on offer. Kohli can't go for his stupid ' going for win everytime' theory.

A draw is not a bad result in a long series. Remember we lost the final test vs England in 2018 which should have been an easy draw.
