Why is his SR 71 which seems low even for that era? Viv,Kapil,Botham many others were clear

 

Back in the days apart from Viv Ricahrds golden rule was to take it slow till 40th over. Often you would find scores like 30/1 in 15 overs.  Kapil, Botham were hitters down the order to start with.  Actual hitting would start after 40th over. Sure there were exceptions here and there.  As an opener Srikkanth used to smash bowlers even in Tests as an opener. Stats will give you false picture of how good Srikkanth was. 80s commies especially channel 9 commies would vouch for that.

but if Srikanth hit from ball one,he qualified as a hitter too

 

I'm willing to  ignore his average if he played high risk game and was a hitter but that doesnt reflect in SR
